2022 Prince William Duke of Cambridge

Recommended Posts

As I posted earlier, the Queen's Privy Council approved a number of coins for Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

This will probably be to celebrate his 40th birthday on the 21st June 2022.

This is our visualization:

We hope the RM will do one without the teeth.

I am aware the colours look slightly strange, but probably better than the real thing.

P.S. Still no news about coins featuring Prince Andrew or ex-Prince Harry.

That coin looks awful, sorry to say. I think a traditional side view of Prince William would look much better.

I don't have a photo of Prince William, so had to find a P.D. one (always respect copyright). This is the best we can manage at the moment...

Until we get to see the actual coins.

This is a truly frightening vision of the future - except perhaps as an oblique advert for his dentist. Perhaps, however, it will be welcomed by Prince Charles's P.R. team as a means to counter the proposals of  those who have suggested that the descent of the Crown should skip a generation and miss out Charles in favour of William.

Yellow gold teeth isn't that great. It should be much easier to create a nice portrait, now without hair. How funny would it be, if they make platinum plated teeth on the gold coin. Much better than gildet, or antique finished teeth on silver.

By the way, there is a really nice coin with teeth on it.

@LawrenceChard- I was unable to find the Gazette entries for this range.

Where did you see it?

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3945265

along with about 5 other notices / proclamations. When I did a Gazette search recently, it was not showing in the result, so they have probably not re-indexed yet.

Once upon a time, mints used to do decent specials..Take this RAM 50c from 1981. Looks pretty good.

Fast forward to 2011 and RAM put out this rubbish which makes CM look like a toothless hill-billy.

I always wondered what Steve Wonder and Ray Charles did apart from music. I do hope they look to the past for inspiration.

I think that the couple must have specified that any coin designs were based on a set of approved photographs. While teeth look OK in 2D in photographs, they invariably look bad in 3D on sculptures, and coins are miniature sculptures.

They really look like they are just converted from photography to some kind of computer generated minting Tool / dice. Especially Kate on this one looks horrible as f.... That's not a design at all, looks like made without any passion, like 3D sculptures made from pictures at the mall while you are shopping. Just horrible.

I second that

So we decided to do a toothless version:

Although it is more of a "gurning" version.

A headless version would probably be best !

I composed a letter to Prince William yesterday evening, and it should have been printed and posted today. Buck House don't accept e-mails.

I politely as I could pointed out the folly of teeth on engravings and coins, and suggested he heep his mouth shut for this next one (That's probably what his grandmother told Andrew and others.

I did phrase it all more professionally, though.

It will be interesting to see the reply, and the coins of course.

I think i will write a letter, offering a free set of grillz if he wears them on the next coin.
