You might well have seen the latter design - the 2016 Last Round Pound...

Absolutely love the design on that coin

Miss the round pound, the new ones are shiťe.

I used to stack my old pound coins up pretending they were gold when I was a young kid *foreshadowing*.

As a young man I used to see an old pound coin and it'd take me back, I remember as a kid I used to keep the thistle ones for my dad because they were Scottish like him. Ahh those were the days.. hang on.. that **** probably owes me a load of money!

Same.  When I first saw the dragon design, I wasn't too keen.  But like all the Tudor Beasts, especially the P+RP sets, they are really nice in the metal.

What do you think happened to the ones you returned? Repackaged and sent back out to someone else? 🤔 or restruck and originals destroyed?

Only those in the know at RM will... er... know.

Since they sent them out before, then really there isn't anything preventing them from selling them again.  They obviously met their quality control standards the first time, however low they may be, so they could simply inspect them again for any additional damage caused by the extra round trip.

The replacements have invariably, in my experience, been better than the originals.  So who knows?

Imagine if someone else on here complained about their coin, and the damage was identical, having ordered after you returned it. 😆
