@1817Karl that is more or less the same as the Krug I had with the same hole in the middle minus the stand, the outer gold coin surface was hard plastic & the inner below the felt was weighted. Royal mint display must be more up market if outer is coloured metal lol.
Of course, it's British...

Added 0 minutes later...Just now, motorbikez said:@1817Karl I think it is plastic & worth about £25-£30 I was given a similar sized plastic Krugerrand in 1982 from my LCS for buying 4 real 1oz Krugs from them. The one I got was dated 1982 & had a felt obverse it was in their window as a display item. I used it as coaster.
It's definitely not plastic!

I’m thinking some sort of display coin for the mint/dealers.
Or a prototype, did the design change in 1985? Maybe the queens portrait did?
I'm almost tempted to give it to you, so close yet so far. Anyone gets it spot on will receive a little something in the post... But it won't be the Giant Sovereign!

Superb coin, minuscule signs of wear. gEF - Unc imo. Certainly in the early 60's dependent on the vagaries of the grader with regard to luster and overall appearance etc.
Yes I would agree, beautiful matte coin, shame about the rim cut... Should grade well though and maybe early 60's as suggested, images aren't the best, but I would be disappointed if it graded 60. Would be interested in owning it @gazer.

@sovereignsteve & @AgD I'd be happy to let one of the sets go (and they are high grade) but for sensible money... I wouldn't describe £150 as sensible. Happy to discuss by PM if interested.

Nice catch up today with @1817Karl who didn’t let me leave empty handed. Three nice sets 1950, 1951 & 1953. Proper money. Thanks Karl.
Lovely proof sets, I'm sure some of the forum members remember using these... Not me!

Not my usual bag... Received a stack of these today, all in, what appears to be, the original mint paper rolls, all bright as buttons and uncirculated (not that I'm an expert on silver!) Don't think they have seen the light of day before..
Any advice or comments would be appreciated. As they're not gold and called Sovereigns, will need to be re-homed, or should they be kept...

I had a look at this site a few weeks ago and it was, interestingly useful, but not much more. The user interface was pretty basic and for a (now) commercial fee subscription site, not professional enough. I would agree that the owner could have been more transparent in the early days but hey, who is ever fully transparent with data gathering!!! I personally don't see it having legs as a subscription service as it stands, but I'd wish anybody good luck with a new business idea.
