I have literally, just completed a full Gillick set (10), having bought all of them from TSF members in the last 14 days. Six in hand, and four to be posted after the RM strike is over. Cost? Under £3800…Quality..make your own judgement.

Free plug to the sellers here @1stsovereign@brnlx639…and when he eventually limps to the Post Office @augur

From left to right it looks like St George is trying to reign the horse back a bit, fails, and then, when it finally does stop, cracks his nut into the back of he 'orses 'ead :o

Actually, in the absence of Sir @LawrenceChard, allow me to put on the Pedant's hat.

    • A rare opportunity to own every bullion Sovereign featuring Mary Gillick’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II from each year of issue between 1957 and 1968

If I could buy every bullion sovereign featuring Mary Gillick's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II from each year of issue between 1957 and 1968 for £6495, I would. That'll be millions of the buggers!

Anyone fancy challenging the mint over this offer?

    😎

I shall have to think about that for a moment...it could be rather too pedantic, even for our forum's own @LawrenceChard! :)

OK...I have thought about it enough in that split-second - it's definitely not! 🤣

When is our favourite budgie-smuggling skier due back? I would like to ask him about his company's page (article/guide) saying that dealers pay The Royal Mint 3% of spot for gold bullion coins. I am willing to offer him a lot more, so easy profit for him and a great deal for me!!! :D

Current year 225 euro’s. Anniversary coin as @daca states, rarely seen. If you think of selling let me know, I might be tempted. 🙂

Thanks buddy! I probably won't be selling purely because I've never sold a coin in my life, I'm too lazy 🤣 Also, I have five so it makes it a tidy number. But, never say never, I might need the cash :)

Wish I could find a U.K dealer that does the gold 1/10’s, currently pay over the odds sourcing from Germany.

How much are they, if you don't mind?

My wish is that Perth did the gold kookaburras in 1/4 oz. I can't justify premiums on the 1/10 oz.

A much better size indeed, in every way :)

I have some of the first year (the anniversary, 2020?) but they are too small for me to appreciate really (even as a huge Kook fan), I should think about selling.

I agree with you that this Memorial Sovereign seems very much like an excuse for an extra release.

As beautiful as the design is, it really wasn’t needed. The RM could have used the same design for the 2023 annual Sovereign and everything would’ve worked out just fine.

I'm in two three minds on this.

Firstly I think that QEII fully deserved a memorial Sov, which obviously could not be Charles' first year 'proper'.

I also think they faced a difficult decision with the first Charles III release, as he's somewhat divisive among some coin collectors, with some (like me) ready to finish their collection with the late QEII. Better to encourage the continuity of the series and iron out any problems with mintages with this QEII 'memorial', and try to gauge the way ahead for Charles' first year. A memorial coin that has his effigy is perfect in that sense. <Edit> One with a large mintage that is 'for the Queen'.

Thirdly, I do wonder whether this release will be looked back on in time and largely felt that the Queen really should have been on it.

    Basically, I'm bamboozled

I think it has just been added, had a look at BackyardBullion's videos on YT and that sentence is missing.

That is very shady if correct - people screencapped the release on the day earlier in the thread, so that can be checked.

I didn't buy myself, but I think it's been a good release (apart from the RM shenanigans) :)

Basically some issues have effectively been 'unlimited' (in that they outstripped demand) but it means everyone who wanted something got it.

Some of these will be one-off souvenir collectors, so we can remove them from the 'collector' pool (as they won't look to buy others from recent years). But some will become collectors, and the mintage on certain releases means that demand will only go up for those coins.

Meanwhile the actual 'collector pool' won't be affected much imvho - the other buyers' coins will go into the drawer or safe, largely forgotten about, and be kept for life - they won't come onto the secondary market.

And the flippers have been 'taken out'. Not good short-term (hype etc), no problem medium to long term for me.

I see it as win-win for us all (whether we bought these or not!) :)

Thanks. I use Firefox but there aren't any function/control keys visible on the page souce page. I'll try to google how to do it, but if anyone knows, feel free to let me know!😊

The function (Fn) key is on your keyboard, but that is not the one to use.

On Firefox it's the same instruction, right click> select 'view page source' from the drop down menu. Then hold down control (Ctrl) and press the F key on your keyboard to open up a little search box on screen, type 'available' into that.

A control +F search is very useful on any web page or document you have open on your computer :)

I would love to see this on a special coronation Sovereign.  The obverse shows the crowned King Charles seated on the throne.  Reverse shows his favorite toilet seat that he takes everywhere……together with a toilet flush handle as a privy.

One of my builders did work on the toilets at St James' Palace while the then Prince Charles and his new wife Diana were present, honestly he told me that Charles had a gold throne and made a huge joke out of it 🤣

My goodness, I can just imagine the headline news:

Founder of Famous Blackpool Precious Metals Dealership Found Barbecued!

Police say a 'reckless and criminally negligent' amount of charcoal was used, and the result was therefore clearly not fit for human consumption.

In order to avoid civil unrest, hungry patrons have temporarily been diverted to the chippie around the corner.

    :o

I'm already in bed but i read all comments from past couple of pages and i still don't know. 3 set still available. It is truly historic release. To buy or not to buy, that's a question🤔...

I think the 4 (for the double) or 5 (for the double and quintuple) are the best bets, but it depends how much money you have. If I were very rich I would get both of those, plus the 3 to match my Jubilee set :)

    Very much this.

I held off getting the 2022 bullion sovereign when I saw the Royal Mint's photos. It was only when I saw some unboxing videos on YouTube and the colour didn't seem that bad, that I pulled the trigger. It's still not an ideal colour, but it's nowhere near as bad as the stock photos.

    Hopefully the photographer was fired.

Definitely! I love the proof Sovs I have, imo they are incredible, and as you say look worse in photos. I have a Viccy and that is glorious too, but in a different way. I understand a preference, but I don't get all the 'hate' for the alloy at all.
