How much does your family spend on food per month including  eating out?  Friends with 2 older children at home told me they spend £900-£1000 per month on  normal supermarket shop and I know they must spend another £250 a month eating out  I thought this was nuts  as it’s well over 15k per year. And that’s after tax so they have to earn circa 19k gross to eat…….this is before the mental inflation we are about to see.

Their mortgage, utility bills,  car payments etc has to be £1,900 per month after tax £22,800 per year so a min of 29k per year gross plus the 19k gross for food and entertainment, they have to earn 48k per year just to live and this is not factoring in all other costs.

I’m no way judging them I just see them as a normal 2 car, 2 children, 2 job working family doing okay.  However is this real sort of costs families face?  No way in hell can they absorb even slightest inflationary period, a sustained high rate of inflation will easily crush many families.

Similar family set up with 2 older kids, 2 cars. Live out in the sticks. Our food bill keeps rising, try to keep a lid on it but even with being careful, looking at £500 a month. Shop everywhere for best deals, use vouchers and now do a menu plan so only buy exactly what need. This is useful as saves faffing on deciding what to have and works very well. I would say it’s a ball ache thinking about it but not as bad in reality. I share the cooking also so helps me choose dishes I am good at.

Alsoto add, shopping bill includes food and household products but not alcohol which is separate..

You can be frugal but it’s a life choice. My other half is ok with it but it’s a fine balancing act between that and being cheap.

Fuel is mega, nearly £100 to fill the family saloon.

Electric went from £90 to £130 as company went bust and wil no doubt be closer to £200 by April.

    NI going up in April.

I think I got a 1.5% pay award this year coming so still going backwards big time. Just hope gold does its job folks!

Where is Westminstrel when you need him / her with their encyclopaedic knowledge of what has been published in the gazette. I certainly don’t recollect any reference to a modern coin with Victoria’s head on it. Unless it belongs in the Monarch series and the RM forgot to mention the 10 kg version.

I thinks it’s the gothic crown portrait but the media or someone has cocked up when reporting?

My understanding is that they are struck on Sunday and then due to be dispatched to anyone who has one on order on 17 Feb. I guess the ones they have assigned to dealers will follow and any delays could be with the dealers, perhaps? Chards may very well want to take delivery and watch the market before releasing them. You could always ask them! They are on this forum @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer.

Chards have already had them in pre sale for a reasonable cost. I missed out/🙁

I got an email from chards that the SotD will be in stock with them approx mid-end March. 😏

What the hell can be the delay if these actually ARE going to be struck on the 6th? I have my doubts.

All they would need to do was flip them into a capsule, kick them into a box and get postman Pat to collect.

Yet another sign that the mint have overstretched themselves.

      Exactly this.

The reverse is neither a Wyon design, nor the Gothic Crown. It was basically RM being greedy. I didn't buy it and don't care if that means I miss out on the portrait.

The whole series is on a decline. For me, this particular series was going to be in my collection for the longer term (unlike say, the Music Legends or Bond coins). Unfortunately, the higher mintages of the subsequent releases has ruined yet another series for me. People who buy with the sole intention to sell the coin(s) immediately upon receipt, give a false impression to RM that there are "x" number of genuine collectors of the series. This leads to an increased mintage, which, in turn results in diminished collector interest and ultimately, demise of the series. We have seen this with most such series.

Unpopular opinion I know, but, nobody will want these coins once the series is over.

Sign of the times my friend. Only consolation I could offer is that if it is a series you really like, buy back in at the other end when prices have bombed.I’m still on the fence, but really object to the mint kicking the arse out of any success.

Oh I thought it was around  £180.. usual price for a 2oz. I didn't purchase it..just assumed the price

The mint keep hicking the tariff when onto a winner.

    £180 for the Una

    £250 3 Graces

    £260 Quartered arms

I suspect after the portrait we will be up to £280 and beyond for future releases.

  7. I find it incredible the mint will offer a set of 21 coins of this calibre/cost and not look after the collector! As stated before, even to get in at the 1oz gold. You would need to “invest” around 50 grand.

I believe as said before, there is only one way to save the mints profits and satisfy collector demand is to mint to order. Everyone happy and secondary prices will settle eventually.

Not a problem sir..you mentioned a fight???? Seems that individuals on here such as me and others  can not have a view without being chastised and undermined with people like you who have a self important, superior view that puts people like me and others who just express their views without  any malice to anyone..but your so called experience on coins makes you believe you can undermine our view...which I and others don't really care about..bullus are everywhere in this world..

If you care to read any of my posts from the past you would know this was untrue, I suggest if you want a battle you go elsewhere.

It makes me wonder whether they are holding a few back in order to up the margin on them at later dates. That was my immediate thought when @JeffM raised the point. Although I'm not sure if that's what was meant...

My concern is they bag 10, price gouge up the way , then when they sell to folks who have pre ordered, they inspect, keep the door f70 as they see s as nd send out the s**** to mrpunter nohoper
