If that was the case, then the 1 ounce 2022 version should have the same thing (Proof and Bullion).

Anyways, still no reply from TD bank nor The Royal Mint........

I imagine you will be waiting some time for a reply from the Royal Mint currently. They are never the most prompt at replying and what with the bank holiday and all.

How does one get a credit account?  Do you have to be a Mint Marque member and have an Account Manager?  It would be nice to have the account topped up with funds prior to a release so that I don’t waste time waiting for an SMS PIN when authorising a card payment on release day.

It’s a double edged sword mate, you end up buying more than you normally would😀

and yes, credit accounts are for mint marque customers however there are various tiers available.

  3. Given the person wants to remain anonymous it would suggest they are donating for all the right reasons. You would think anyone in their position, who knows about bullion, would sell the gold and make a direct cash donation with proceeds? Reducing the potential of the charity getting ripped off trying to exchange for fiat and saving them the hassle. Given the coins were Brits, there would be no issues with the person selling and capital gains which was the only possible reason I could think of for taking said route.

    Anyways, nice gesture.

Was the fair any good ?? Never made the effort to travel down Newcastle to London

If I can snag cheap train for next time I might venture down south, as I'll be royal mint credit account debt free this month after great engravers and 2022 sovereign releases are paid off !!

Congrats on clearing off the account. Not sure you would survive the tab for a round Paul, what’s a pint in capital city theses days? Any change from a tenner?

    Even more to the point...

... dis you spot the gold advert, and prices:

    Dated Tuesday 9th December 1980

Yes I clocked your ad, wouldn’t have known it was your company if you hadn’t shown other magazine article in  the other thread. When did you change the company name? After 1980 obviously.
Incidentally, who’s phone number is pencilled in under your ad?or is that the safe combo?😄👍

So, I have just published a video about the recent auction results from The Coin Cabinet auction.

I had not thought about it before, but assuming that a seller has to pay a 10% + VAT commission on the sales a 5 oz gold proof griffin sold for £1320/oz

That does not even factor in grading fees/postage costs etc.

    £7500 sale price

    £750 + £150 = £900 commission

    £6600 for the coin

You could have taken it to a scrap dealer and gotten £7500 for it at £1500/oz spot price.

The only person that is winning here is the auction house with £750 worth of fees.

Well, that and the buyer that got a 5 oz gold proof griffin for spot price.

    Am I missing something?

Are you a bit miffed because you have the one ounce proof? ( me too )

So we know the RM don't produce the blanks, they don't make the boxes........It's begging the question what do they do?   I think with the monarch series they miss out on a real trick they could have just hand made them in Wales, knock up some rough silver blanks and hand hammer them......Honestly I would have loved a modern hammered coin for the collection.     It's looking like the RM are in trouble here it won't  be long before they can solve this by selling us all NFT coins.

Given they are squirrelling away multiple perfect coins to NGC for grading/ price gouging with their “partners” I think having real hammered coins would have made this tricky for them to do. I fear the mint are making an awful lot of mistakes at the moment. Their “reputation” will only take them so o far before folks have had enough, getting close myself.
I agree though, proper hammered coins would have been good though.

Most people who own one seem to think they are wonderful, although it might be like owning a new car.  Presumably it does what you bought it for, and if their are faults with it, you don't want to admit you bought the wrong car.

The fact that we have an XRF machine may help to answer your question, but as we have never owned or used a Sigma, perhaps we are missing something.

Accordingly, we have ordered one of each of the three Sigma models, all fully loaded with all accessories, primarily for evaluation. Two should arrive in about a month, but the mini version will be delayed longer.

Once we receive them we intend to evaluate them, and share our experiences and thoughts, in a review on our website, and here.

After that, we will probably become a UK distributor, unless our evaluation persuades us otherwise.

    🙂

It will be interesting to read your findings, I’m sure they will be impartial..

    Two questions, if I may?

Who the hell pays £2000 for a dog?

What was the youngest date coin @LawrenceChard?

    (ok, technically, that's 3!)

Youngest coin was a 2023 sov, very rare🤔

the poor chap would have needed the papers pay out to cover some of the cost of the dog.

I have got one further question, did the sovereigns have an unusual odour of fish?😄
