I think they are still available from several dealers. I can’t see them selling for a profit in the short to medium term.

They're quite bulky. 92g in total they'll bedifficult to flip anyway. If these were released prior to 2019 I could see them reaching the sky in 2021 like everything during the covid bubble...

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.

Is inflation hitting buyers?  Things I have suggested to the RM this year.

1 drastically reduce mintage of proof sovereigns for the next few years.

2 to make the 5 sets exclusive without “b a stardising the sovereign” mint the full sovereign in the set with a streamer as the full normally comes without

3 make semi collectible bullion sovereigns,  12 month subscription for shield back bullion sovereigns with monthly random die numbers.

4 been asking for this for a while, not fake modern hammered gold, but real hand hammered modern gold coins,

HYO coins on the VIP tour?

“Hammer your own”.

1 - completely agree, and stick to g&d for a few years as they have been milking the ‘specials’ train a lot recently.

2 - can’t see this compelling many to buy, would be like the privy marks which don’t seem to get much love.

3 - not a bad call - the risk here might be you end up with what’s happened to the Britannias - popular standard design bullion range being successful but they’ve killed their sales on the outrageously priced proofs.

4 - feels a bit of a gimmick given they’ve been out of use for so long. Something you’d do at Jorvik museum rather than the RM 😂

Sadly I think what we’ll get is a flop this year followed by a panic in 2025 as they seek to pump their commemorative sales. The mention of it being the 200th anniversary of the shield sovs in 2025 I think is quite a prescient observation - if 2024 flops then the temptation to do another ‘special’ may be irresistible.

The RM has a challenge ahead, they need to reduce their margins if not a proof sovereign will now be over £820 and a proof 1oz gold what? 3.1-3.2k

The problem is your asking a private limited business who's just made record profits to make less profit per unit and sell less units.

They've benefited from all the new issues due to the jubilee and coronation. Those are one offs and they can't expect to sell as much in normal years. So if they are to make future profits they need a different business plan.

Nice close on Friday @ £1655.  DSI went from single digits to around 60, so sentiment for bullion is still not at extreme levels - that'll be when it's in the 90's.

For all those that can't sell on the TSF to members, you can sell them on dozens of other places at good prices. Atkinsons will basically give you spot for sovs. Large bars for about 3% under spot. That ain't bad at all.

Why do some people get hung up about ‘spot’ when selling sovereigns? You either sell your stuff and make money or you don’t. Some on here can easily afford to sell to a dealer if they wanted due to the prices they paid for their stash, whilst others have a smaller margin to play with.

Noticed this. Do you happen to knoe... Does the price 'lock in' when you process it online or when they receive the items?

The price is usually locked in when you place your order.

Might do a little test run. As nice as it is to deal with people on here, I can understand if people aren't buying at spot or even below right now, why as a seller not just sling a few to a dealer?

Selling price is locked once they'd received it or if you don't live too far from Sutton Coldfield, arrange an appointment and drop off in person.
