Sounds like it will be sold to be a SOTD sovereign. The coronation ones were sold prior to the day.

Probably look identical and you will need to send in with box for NGC to class it as the 75th birthday on the grading.

Sold prior to the day, yes, but will still be struck on the day of the occasion.

And most likely it will have a “75” privy if the crowned portrait is used.

Yes its in the name tbh. 75 privy would be a nice touch and better than identical coins.

You just can’t see the privy marks they are tiny.

Give me a shield back SOTD.

Should have done that in 2021 - 200th anniversary of the first shields.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

Depends on what price they finally settle on.

By the figures provided by the forum, that's 8,600 proof sovereigns in total. That's not too bad - right around the mintages issued between 1990 - 1997. All of those years now command significant premiums @ PF70.

isnt 1825 first full shield bullion sov?

Have to look it up, but I thought it was 1821.  You might be right.

Edit: Yes, you're right, according to the interwebs they were still using the G&D reverse in 1821.  Cunningham's law in action.

I have two subscriptions for proof sovereigns- the RM notified me today that the money will be taken for these shortly.  Will the lower mintage help with the resale value or is the collecting community suffering from sov overload?

Second question- will this SOTD be a desirable sov to own?  I was able to get a coronation but am inclined to pass on the Bday issue.  What do you think?

thanks for your thoughts

i dont think this proof sov will get any additional value anytime soon. It "should" (of course you never know...) be the first of a long (?) series of normal sovereigns.. like the QE fourth design ones...2000-2001-2003-2004 etc etc.

Low mintage should help but not that much. I ll grab one nonetheless, but only because i'm doing a year run collection and i find less painful to keep buying the current ones as they get released, rather than taking a break and then having to fill holes..

As for the Sotd i would say 100% is a no go.

Correct me if I'm wrong but will this release most likely have a queuing system to log into their website like the previous "special" releases?

We will have them available to buy without the need to queue on the day of the launch, I can only say it is very close, and I think people will be pleased with the mintages.

PM me if you want me to guarantee you a chance to order, unlike the mint only those who have pre-registered will get the link to buy, and we will make sure there is enough to satisfy that list.

I wish I could give you more information, but due to the embargo I am simply not allowed.

Everyone just don't buy anything at launch. Will be lovely to watch. If nobody buys anything see what the market does

It won't be anything special or unique so you won't be missing out

Let the flippers, enjoy the journey

Just boycott this sovereign as a social experiment to watch and enjoy what the free market does

Speaking of which the new definitive did surprisingly well. The 125 gold sets sold out pretty much the next day if I recall correctly

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.
