The 95th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen

Recommended Posts

I quite like it. Timothy Noad design, no less. Yes, coming up available today at 9am.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Looks like this will go live today at 9am!

Does not strike me as a 3 graces money maker.

Nice designs, but as with previous iterations of Birthday coins the potential for flipping or even medium long term growth of premium is very slim.

I did a little research on the 90th Birthday version from 2016 and its hard to see any gold examples that are active but the silver proof £5 versions have not sold for more than £65 on ebay.

I personally won't be buying as an investment and this does not ring enough with my intertest in the Queen to buy for posterity so it will be a miss for me.

There might be some interest in it if it turns out to be her last birthday coin before Prince Charles takes the throne. Not exactly sure when that will happen though or how it works, just know I've heard some talk of it over the past year.

Yeah, this did cross my mind. But, I would think the death commemoration coin will be even more sought after and whatever design on whatever coin it happens to be that is released just before her death will also be quite sought after - but nobody really knows which coin that will be and buying one of every type just on the off chance she pops her clogs is not practical!

The coins are not for me - but the two art prints (limited to 95 per print) are.

Anyone else buying those?

Yeah I got one cos I like the design... total impulse buy, not looking to "make" anything out of it, just throw it in a frame and put in my office. Sometimes you just have to buy things you like and not think about potential money making out of it.

I’d like then but not sure they’re worth it to me. They’re just printed copies right? Not actually hand sketched?

Correct - they are limited edition prints (95 copies) of the original sketch. The original would be selling for more than £95 for sure and probably will remain at the Royal Mint Museum. This represents a good investment. Limited edition art prints can be difficult to balance on the investment scales, but I think these are good. These are of course LONG term holds....not for quick profit....

Quite a few of these coins have "limited edition" mintages and then maximum coin mintages much higher.

Setting up for a collectors package with all coins in them?

Isn't the difference made up by the coins in the annual sets? Is there a Piedfort silver proof annual set?

My big question is why is there a Piedfort AND a two ounce silver?? Their weights are almost equal, minor difference is that the Piedfort is plain edge with an edge inscription. The two ounce is milled edge.

What was the price of the strike on the day sovereign? I missed it.. Sigh.
