I really like the 2023 Kookaburra. It appears they took inspiration from the 2013 coin with two baby kooks.  The same flowers and everything but the birds are now adults.

Always been a fan of JC designs and this time is no different. Not to say TN isn’t goodC I really like it, but personally, I much prefer the hyper detail and more realism style of JC interpretation of the shield. Normally ‘less is more’ - but I think he even gets away with such a complex design without much white space. An achievement in itself. I think JC design will be a big plus point for the future desirability of this coin. If 2014 Brit, QB, are anything to go by - people like his work. Absolute beauty, and can’t wait to see it in hand.

I find the current color difficult to describe.T he marketing is reddish pink but in hand it's like a shiny brown with a golden shine if one rotates the coin. Personally I rather like them as sovereigns mixed with the matte gold of Perth Mint coins looks really good. I've never seen a sovereign with partial silver alloy but I guess a little changes it quite a bit or otherwise it wouldn't be such a persistent talking point. US Eagles have some silver and certainly have a more 'gold' look than a sovereign but clearly aren't 9999 pure. Based on that, I can see why people want silver in there.
I would assume adding silver would add more production cost and it's just easier to go with the 9167 gold 833 copper.

If Sovereigns with King Charles III are now less rose gold it will all make more sense to me.
Historically gold Sovereigns have pretty much been 22 / 24 parts gold and that tradition will probably continue.
    - Rose gold for the Queen.
    - Gold gold for the King.
And makes it easier to identify the monarch on your Sovereigns just by the colour.
Very clever idea by the RM if this turns out to be true and really like the concept.

The Queen wore a crown. That alone makes her much cooler. Charles is progressive enough to not wear a crown but not progressive enough to keep the earrings. It's very disappointing.

You can get the türkiye cumhuriyeti bullion coin, which has the year of the Turkish republics birth, 1923 + years after it was minted, with Atatürk on. There is also the decorative Ziynet coin, which is thinner, and bigger, often used for decoration and for gifts, and you can get the older designs
Darphane (Turkish state mint) also does commemorative coins

All coins have a currency value, with the possible exception of demonitised ones. It will not affect whether you have to pay import duty or tax when you imprt them into your own country. If you cross multiple borders, you might get hit multiple times. If you are only talking about low values, there should be few problems, but anyone crossing international borders with large amounts of cash, coins, money, or other valuables should check whether each import is legal, and whether they are required to declare it.
For USA rules, I would advise you check with US Customs, or a local expert.

I have been several times to Istanbul.  The gold market is stocked full of Gold & Silver jewelry and chains sold by length.  There are a few stalls selling bullion and proof coins- typically local coins but also the odd coin such as mainstream Eagle, Britannia, Libertad etc. and the odd Silver and gold bar- but not in any kind of quantities- looked like they were just reselling what they had traded in.

I'm sure there is someone who has been there. I'm considering a trip to Turkey next year. Are there conventional bullion coins available in this market(Britannias, Kangaroos, Maples, Eagles etc) or is the only bullion coin option the Ataturk coins? Do those coins have a currency value when you go through customs of another country?

    Thanks.

I remember, back in 2009, thinking that the Zimbabwean $100 trillion note would become collectible, so I bought one on eBay for £5. They are now selling for about £150. I should have had more conviction and bought a whole bunch.

Same here. After 2023 I think I’m done with modern Sovs. While a change previously felt special, it now just feels gimmicky.
With the St. George and the Dragon design, the Royal Mint should be proud of a centuries old tradition and heritage that has managed to endure the test of time. It’s what makes the Sovereign so iconic - both to the UK and to the Royal Mint. It’s something to be proud of.
Instead, the Royal Mint seems to be varying the design at every opportunity just for the sake of it.
There are 100s of coins and ranges with annual variations - not just by the Royal Mint, but by numerous other Mints around the world as well.
I think the Sovereign risks losing its identity and becoming like any of these coin ranges out there.
