There'll be more than a few here who remember around £700 in mid-2015 during the life of this forum. Is it really 8 years? It only seems like yesterday, but still, it's a decent enough time and will be before the majority here started stacking.
No idea where I'm going with this but it's nice to reminisce and £175 sovereigns has a lot to recommend it. 😁
Good to see you back Steve

Thanks for the informative information and the books options - as I will read up and try get familiar and then might go for the 4th Ed Spink 2020 to start with 👍🏽 Thanks buddy!!
The 2020 edition of Spink will suffice in terms of information- the latest edition will provide a more up to date price guide- prices have jumped exponentially since 2020- and you can take with a pinch of salt price guides when it comes to the higher grade examples!
Auction sites such as Noonans, London Coins, Spink, Hosker Haynes, Baldwins etc. etc are also great resources as well as specialist online dealers. -

I will have to learn how you pick all those nice PF70 slabbed coins.@Upsidedown & @richatthecroft any of you guys want to teach a chap.. as I would be interested some affordable historic coins for display purposes and learn along the way also 👍🏽
I would say spend time visiting well established coin fairs, handle the coins, and ask the dealers questions- importantly, find an era/ period/ monarch you’re interested in and do some research. Also join some Facebook groups where you’ll pick up some good information.
There’s some fabulous books available that’ll give you lots of reading/ overview, I would recommend this Spink book- it won’t break the bank either, there is also a Decimal volume.
Spink, Coins of England Pre- Decimal Issues, is in my opinion, a must have- this will provide you a good overview of each period from Celtic Coinage up until Elizabeth II Pre- Decimal. The 2024 Edition will be released soon.
Once you find a period you’re interested in- then get geeky!

I hadn't realised until seeing this that the 2021 was available in both 22k and 24k!
Yes- the 2022 issues were also available in both fineness too- but not the inaugural Charles III so I have stuck to the 22ct.

My Gold (and Silver) Sixpence vanity project continues with the 2022 Elizabeth II & 2023 Charles III 22ct Gold issues.
Beautiful John Bergdahl designs- these to follow on from the 2021 (the inaugural Gold) issues in both 22 & 24ct Gold. Thanks again to @SilverMike for parting with the 2021’s a while back and introducing me to these sweet little Gold coins.

Dear all, to address this, I saw the adverts on facebook but was looking for buyers before pulling the trigger. Due to the fact the amounts involved would put me under too much pressure to purchase without already having a buyer lined up.
Obviously I was going to make sure I had in hand prior to any deal. The person is 15mins away from me so I was planning on going down there on Saturday. I can’t comment on if that’s a legit profile or not as I took it as good faith because she said she is having a child soon.

Just now, alexander11 said:I get where you’re coming from, if it had been a year ago I’d have had the cash when I came across it but the past couple of months things have got tighter. So it’s a case of needs must. I know that’s not the case for most on here as there’s a lot of deep pockets but still.
I really don’t know why you would write this drivel- I’m speechless -

That's fair tbh, but I can assure you it works, if in doubt just ask for vouches of prospective buyers on here.
@richatthecroft cheap set
Thanks James, but I already have this 2020 Set- but a great price for someone 👍

I remember when someone here on the forum- I can’t remember who-sussed out on 6th March 2019, that Hatton Garden Metals were offering 1oz Gold Queen’s Beasts Lions for £1036 each- members here on TSF hammered the ‘deal’.
At the time, Gold Price was £978- so a 6% premium, which was unheard of for a QB.
I bought, and paid for mine, but they didn’t honour the price for anyone- they contacted me by telephone to explain it was a mistake- following my protest to the salesperson she offered to make amends and bought me off, with a discount on the premium of 1x Victoria YH Shield. -

My spoils from the recent Bullion By Post Black Friday promotion.
A collective saving of £296 off the Royal Mint issue price for the Sovereign & Half Sovereign- and the offer sweetened further with 2 free 1oz Silver Britannia- one for me, and one for the Goldfish in their ‘refer a friend’ promotion.
Essentially the Half Sovereign weighing in at only £45 after factoring in the savings and the freebie Silver- well, it justifies my unplanned purchase.

Agreed, but the odd holiday or treat in retirement on the back of saving from something that’s nice to hold in your hand in the meantime would be satisfying.
