Yes I agree with all of your points there Lawrence. I could and normally would have put a direct link to assist but the title, description etc didn’t help really.

I then read your last comment and think to myself. “ Is he being funny with me there?”

    @Altitudes
These unusual proof sizes were also selectively available in the US market. BOLD precious metals had 15 of the 2oz silver proofs for sale, and I happened to take a screenshot from May 2nd. APMEX currently has a 10oz gold proof for sale at an enormous premium, and the mintage of this coin is 30.  I like to take these screenshots for reference prices, as the dealers remove them after they sell.

As always, I am curious if the RM sent out a brochure for this completer coin? 🙂

I'd like this in a bigger size to show off the design. I have the 1oz gold bullion and it feels a bit like the party with the dwarves at Bag End at the beginning on The Hobbit.

They had problems with this one with the caps coming open in transit and scratching the coins - I sent a few back myself.
That said I'm sure they would have minted the max and they were very highly in demand, I just happened to find a company who were a bit under the radar (even on here) with stock. I don't think that 323 figure can be right. They can't restrike a SotD but of the few I sent back some may still have been 68/69s - I was being ultra cautious, but I bet those coins were recycled.

Also, someone from this forum got this Sovereign with a COA 632.
So certainly more than 323 were struck?

I believe that that is more their expectation then were actually sold.... Page 163 in Marsh... the RM tend to state a maximum mintage. I know with the 3G's that they do an initial run and mint more. In that case, yes, all coins were sold but in on an item they state a maximum mintage and then only sell less then that then that's it.... Struck on the day it could be that they strike what has been reserved/registered. I could be wrong but?
Also not sure that COA's actually mean that much

I think it depends on how it fits in with your collection.  I have ordered one, but it is because of the nature of the anniversary, the Matte finish, and plain edge on the coin which have attracted me to it.  Having said this the total mintage is quite high (1295) for a Strike on the Day coin, so it is unlikely to be a financial winner in the short run.

Did I say you were just talking about bullion? No, because obviously you weren't.
My point remains. The bullion is quite straightforward imo. They won't do a 1/4, the design doesn't allow it. A 2oz, a 5 oz? Maybe, but the 1oz is clearly 'the one to have' for the bullion collectors of the set. I only have the Lion and Griffin so bought this coin on its own merits as nice bullion at what I consider to be a pretty reasonable premium.

High mintage for a SOTD and yet another addition to the ever growing legion of matte finish / privy mark sovereigns.
Doesn’t feel particularly special to me and imho doesn’t feel like a long term winner.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but with these releases i ask myself - if I was buying from the secondary market is there anything about this sovereign that would make me want to pay more than bullion for it. In this case the answers no. Matte finishes and privy marks have now firmly been done to death for me.

    Hi @SilverFlame
I am a Brit employed by a Danish company - before Covid, I spent most of my time in Copenhagen.
It sounds like you are after bullion - in my travels around Copenhagen, I have found the best place to be https://tavex.dk/ for bullion type coins.
It is > 1 year since I have been to CPH and things do change.  I know it is 'obvious' but do take a look at the premiums before you go - when I went, there were some significant differences in the premiums that I found surprising. i.e. Sovs on the day I visited were not the lowest premium coin.
Much more specialised is https://www.hafniacoins.dk I wouldn't go there unless you are into buying numismatic coins (not to start off with anyway).
    Tak

What gold coins does Denmark mint? And what foreign coins are recognised and sell there?
That may be a very good thing. Do you have coin shops and dealers in your country? You could be one of the first very sensible ones there!
Not sure at all about this advice given where the OP is. Definitely, Sovereigns are one of the most internationally recognised and traded coins, but they fall behind Krugerrands. With the huge uncertainty in the world at present I would not rely on the popularity of what sells best on here, I would rather look to what can be sold from/within Denmark.
@SilverFlame how much research have you done into this?

Is that because they are the only ones to ship to Denmark? What about Royal Mint Bullion?
So there are no import taxes for you? Very good!
It sounds like you can afford one ounce Beast Completor (available at Atkinsons of London or Chards at the moment, perhaps the Mint too) and one Sov.
As you plan to just buy and hold for a long time, but economic troubles may occur very soon, I would agree with @Touvex and say Sovs.
1/10th coins (e.g. Britannias) carry far too high a premium unless you can find a bargain.
Chards secondary market Sovs are sometimes very nice ones some people say (which may have a little collectable value or gain some in the future), or you may just wish to buy new ones (which won't).
Let us know what you decide and good luck!
