95th birthday Sov.? Worth it?

Recommended Posts

I think it depends on how it fits in with your collection.  I have ordered one, but it is because of the nature of the anniversary, the Matte finish, and plain edge on the coin which have attracted me to it.  Having said this the total mintage is quite high (1295) for a Strike on the Day coin, so it is unlikely to be a financial winner in the short run.

I bought 4 of them. I will be listing them here and on ebay for £1100.

😉

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

You should ask at least double on ebay. They will probably look like a bargain compared with "London Coins" and others.

Don't forget most people who buy on ebay are stupid! 🙂

It is one thing to ask double, but it is a very different thing to achieve it - not all eBayers are that stupid!

2018 65th anniversary ... 650 was the mintage bt only 323 were actually sold

Oh that 2018 Strike on the Day Sovereign. How did tou manage to get the mintage figure? Also, I’d have thought they strike the entire mintage on the day, but perhaps they only strike confirmed orders?  🤔

Also, someone from this forum got this Sovereign with a COA 632.

So certainly more than 323 were struck?

I believe that that is more their expectation then were actually sold.... Page 163 in Marsh... the RM tend to state a maximum mintage. I know with the 3G's that they do an initial run and mint more. In that case, yes, all coins were sold but in on an item they state a maximum mintage and then only sell less then that then that's it.... Struck on the day it could be that they strike what has been reserved/registered. I could be wrong but?

Also not sure that COA's actually mean that much

Yeah I don’t know for sure either a jut the COAs. Was just looking into it since your comment piqued my interest and I had some time to kill. 🙂

It’ll be interesting to see what the confirmed mintages of these SotDs are, and try to guess at the RM’s process, especially since they are meant to be struck on the specific day only.

They had problems with this one with the caps coming open in transit and scratching the coins - I sent a few back myself.

That said I'm sure they would have minted the max and they were very highly in demand, I just happened to find a company who were a bit under the radar (even on here) with stock. I don't think that 323 figure can be right. They can't restrike a SotD but of the few I sent back some may still have been 68/69s - I was being ultra cautious, but I bet those coins were recycled.
