Admirable effort in that collection. Not sure what to make of lots 141-144 though.

When you consign that sort of value (311 * GBP380 = GBP118k+) I assume there'd be some sort of negotiating power. At the very least avoid any seller's fees, and maybe get to keep a percentage of the premium, too.

But true, should've taken them to @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer

'Should've gone to Chards' sounds like an excellent tagline.. I wonder if anyone else has ever thought of something similar.....😃

Thanks @stefffana but is there actually a good write up? Or database where you can check the year and projected prices? @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer do you have anything like this on your website? You usually have some interesting articles there. @SDBullion do you have any links?

We do have some coins with Privy marks on our website but not this specific coin!

    Hello guys,

I just received my first best value gold sovereign from HGM and there are a few big scratches, please see picture below

They look deliberate and not from wear and tear, should I be concerned about the scratches?

Would I be able to return and request for the sovereign to be replaced?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you

The coin you received would have been classed as “Grade C” at https://www.chards.co.uk/gold-sovereign-secondary-market-grade-c/3351

Most dealers will have a threshold when it comes to condition of bullion coins.

    At Chards, ours is
one we have consistently used for almost 60 years. We have noticed that many newish dealers, including scrap gold buyers, jewellers, and pawnbrokers, appear to operate a very low threshold for bullion coins.

Price comparison of “our choice” secondary market bullion sovereigns is often not a fair like-for-like comparison, because of our quality threshold standards compared with most of our competitors. We often get to see sovereigns offered to us by people who have originally bought them elsewhere. These often include damaged, scratched, highly polished coins, mainly ex-jewellery, and also fakes. We usually ask owners/sellers where they bought them from, and a high proportion name a small number of apparently reputable sources.

I have seen on Chards website that the payments in crypto are accepted. See https://www.chards.co.uk/guides/buy-gold-with-crypto/1051.

I am sure that @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer or @LawrenceChard can give you more details.🤗

We are currently looking for a more cost effective custodian solution for Cryptocurrency so in the mean time, we are not accepting crypto payments. The market is too volatile. We are working to remove Crypto pages from our website. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

  6. @mike1097 Thank you for inquiry about the gold Charles Memorial sovereigns.

    1) The coins being Memorial indeed add a unique historical significance to them, as they are the first sovereigns to feature the King Charles III crowned portrait by Martin Jennings. While this portrait doesn't directly affect the intrinsic metal value of the sovereigns, it can attract collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate coins with such distinct characteristics.

    2) Regarding the cost per coin, it is currently priced at around £378 plus postage at the time of writing this response.

hi guys. thanks for the replys

first of all that is just my opinion, i am not trying to insult a business, however i learnt many years ago a business is NOT your friend, i learnt this lesson with amd, intel and nvidia for example.

as stated, i prefer to use 1 of my credit cards for the reason stated, 56 pays to pay off the balance, nut more importantly i get 1% cashback, which soon adds up over the year, if i order pepsi or gold at the end of the year this cash back is a decent amount, in another way, it reduces everything i buy by 1%

lets look at this for a example:

Best Value Sovereign Gold Bullion Coin:

Atkinsons Bullion and Coins £380.93 - delivered

Chards Coin and Bullion Dealer £382.87 - delivered

using my cashback card these prices fall to £377.12 and £379.04 respectively, i would PREFER to use chards (even at the slightly more expensive price, as they are most local dealer to me and i always prefer to use local business if possible, if atkinsons can do this price while taking a hit on credit card fees, why cant chards, from what i can see it is only chards that do not accept credit cards out of all the online gold dealers in the uk.

another things "online" is the key word here, these company's are selling online, i dont think im aware of any uk online retailer who refuses to accept credit cards, its all very strange to me.

so rant over, all im saying is, i get 1% back when using my card, also i can buy gold or a bottle of pepsi, using this credit card and i have up to 56 days to pay for these items, hope this helps.

    Hey @goldlips,

We appreciate your comment and after speaking with Lawrence there is a whole host of reasons as to why as a business we do not currently accept this payment method.

We do however constantly look at ways of improving our service and would hate to think we have lost you as a customer due to this.

For any more information please email info@chards.co.uk and we will be happy to speak.

    Thanks,

    Chris
