That's so bad, I'd ring the up and ask to speak to a manager and kick off. They messed me about so much they compensated me in nearly £200 worth of coins.

Thanks for that suggestion - after a few more phone calls and callbacks trying to get hold of a manager, it sounds like things are finally on track - or at least, it sounds a bit more promising this time!

I will be returning it again and a manager has taken proper ownership of it this time, saying she will even repackage the coin herself if she has to!

I was also asked if there were any silver proof coins I was looking for next (I assumed they were then going to offer to send me one for free to make up for this mess), but the only ones I have on my radar aren't released until next year.

So I was offered the choice of "any silver proof coin" for free. I said I'd have a think about it, but without any further qualification I was starting to daydream a little.... :D

The Royal Mint is currently giving free delivery on all bullion orders, no minimum spend.

    Glitch!

You can use this to avoid the £5+ delivery charge on the discounted commemorative coins. Add a £1.50 coin capsule from the bullion section of the site and you'll get free delivery on the whole of your commemorative order. The capsules are counted as bullion items because of the section they're in (so you get the free postage), but they are fulfilled via the normal retail part of the site rather than requiring an investment account.

I cannot believe this is how my proof 2022 sovereign has arrived.

This is how it looked when I opened the box. Why aren’t RM using the screw capsules anymore!!!! 😩

How the hell has this happened, I’m so annoyed and disappointed.

    That's a pretty unpleasant surprise.

Did it manage to survive the disco unscathed?

Has anyone had a perfect 5 Sovereign coin yet?

Mine has a few marks in the field around Queeny but the Shield side is fantastic.

    The double looks perfect.

The Full Sov looks stained around Queeny.

    Half looks perfect.

Quarter is hard to even see 😂

Mine is perfect in my eyes.

    And in my loupe!

There are imperfections galore if you go in any further, but that's all part of the charm. I could look at it close-up all day.

Looking at them that closely, I would say only my Quarter Sovereign has something annoying on it (a subtle mark a bit like on the edge of byb's five-sovereign, but less pronounced).

    There's a quarter? :D

I see what you did there :D

In my rush to get a second sovereign I mistook the 6 for a five and ordered one! Ah, well that's £106 more than I wanted to pay, but still a nice profit for Lawrence!

Must admit, I thought it was the same price as RM at first glance just because it ended in 85!

  6. Oh man, the latest event in this nightmare adventure that's been going on since 14 October is just INCREDIBLE....

    To recap:

    • 14 Oct: My "Year of the Pig" coin from the Trial of the Pyx turns out to be missing from its sealed brochure. After half an hour on the phone, I find it loose, wedged in the corner of the cardboard mailer envelope it arrived in, but there's still a tangible problem: The coin has been installed wrong-face-up in its tamper-evident packaging!
    • 20 Oct: Yes, 6 days later, RM finally reply to my email to say they can't offer me a replacement so I can only return it for a refund.
    • 20 Oct: I ask them to resolve it properly, i.e. by repackaging the coin. I'm disappointed that it arrived the wrong way round in the first place, let alone having to wait nearly a week for a response that doesn't actually solve the problem.
    • 27 Oct: A full week later, I'm eventually told they can indeed repackage the coin. Yay! I return the coin using a supplied pre-paid label and mark it for the attention of an individual as instructed.
    • 8 Nov: I get another email confirming that my coin has been received and passed onto the relevant department to be re-packaged and sent back to me. I was told I would get a confirmation email when it has been re-dispatched.

    And today:

    • 22 Nov: The coin arrived out of the blue, with no email confirmation of dispatch. Guess what? It's still the wrong way up! Worse still, there is a distinctive mark on the tamper-evident packaging that matches the one on the detailed photos I took before returning it. This shows they haven't accidentally packaged it the wrong way up again, rather they have literally done nothing to it at all! They have just kept my coin for a few weeks and returned it in the exact same packaging it was in when I sent it to them.

What should I do now?! This is so frustrating and it's taken up hours of my time and I am firmly back at square one again.

And how is that my problem ? It shows a lack of training of the staff they employ and is also indicative of their poor quality control staff too.

I didn't say it was your problem? I was just explaining the likely cause of those discrepancies (one of them told me his life story while I was trying to get an account problem sorted out! :D)

The inconsistency by the RM is maddening. To one customer, they say within 10 days. To another, some time between now and the end of the year.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the front-end customer service people don't really know what's going on most of the time, and certainly don't have access to certain information.

A lot of them are just normal people who needed a job - some of them haven't been in the job that long, and not all of them will even have any true interest in or knowledge of the stuff their employer sells to pay their wages.

I guess that's good news for people looking for replacements from the mint, more of a chance they will replace a coin with a fresh one seeing as they're still cranking them out.

What happens to the mintage figures if they make new replacements?

Royal mail didn't open the box and undo the capsule though?? It wasn't closed properly at the mint ( I had to fight with the half sovereign to get that open so in my opinion it's a Royal mint fault)

Ps the bit of capsule that's chipped wasn't inside the box so it was packed that way.

Are you sure the capsule is chipped?

Having had a closer look at mine, I think they're injection moulded on a frame and that bit looks like where the lid would have been broken off or cut from the sprue. All of my capsules have slightly rough rectangular areas on the side like that, as that's where the gate is that would allow the material to flow into it. As the material is quite brittle, you'd expect to see white colouring in those areas and it's even visible from the front in some cases (no pun intended).
