Royal mail didn't open the box and undo the capsule though?? It wasn't closed properly at the mint ( I had to fight with the half sovereign to get that open so in my opinion it's a Royal mint fault)
Ps the bit of capsule that's chipped wasn't inside the box so it was packed that way.
Are you sure the capsule is chipped?
Having had a closer look at mine, I think they're injection moulded on a frame and that bit looks like where the lid would have been broken off or cut from the sprue. All of my capsules have slightly rough rectangular areas on the side like that, as that's where the gate is that would allow the material to flow into it. As the material is quite brittle, you'd expect to see white colouring in those areas and it's even visible from the front in some cases (no pun intended).

What will you do with the single sov now with the Mark's?? Return or move on?
My main motivation was just having a perfect (or close to perfect) set of five. I'm not bothered enough to return the single full sovereign although I probably could do.
Problem sorted, easy life!

If you look really closely, the textures in the mirror-like polished regions are truly mesmerising. They also harbour lots of microscratches, but I consider that acceptable!

My opinion is that if your coin looks good to the naked eye then it is good enough for me. You don't look at anything through a magnifying glass usually. Does perfection really exist any way?
I would have completely agreed until I got my first proof sovereign this week - they really do have a level of detail that can't be appreciated with the naked eye imho!
-
Just typical, after going to the effort of setting up a tripod, camera, lights etc. to capture any problems at the point of unboxing, my 5-coin set turned out to be perfect!
(at least to the naked eye, that is.... I will have a closer look with a million dollar electron microscope after all the other things people have pointed out)
Somewhat miffed at having a COA number in the mid-range considering I must have been one of the first people here to actually order it, but by lucky coincidence it's still a rather special number to me!

To be fair, I might just put it under compression under a heavy book for a while and then see how it looks in a few days.
Maybe it will be OK.
Nah, get a replacement; and insist that it's packaged better, too.
Whenever I've posted ridiculously expensive pieces of paper, where even the slightest crease would obviously be unacceptable, I put them in a cardboard-backed envelope, and then package that in a cardboard box with void fill. The additional postage cost is negligible and the additional bulk also prevents the postman from damaging it by trying to cram it through a letterbox.

Mine arrived an hour ago and I haven't touched the parcel yet. I'm letting my initial excitement subside a bit so any possible disappointment is less crushing
-
I still haven't received my repackaged Trial of the Pyx coin (started the process on 14 Oct) so I hope I don't have to go through all this again for a sovereign.
Feels like they are too busy making millions by selling new things to bother with providing anything like an acceptable level of customer service for existing orders.
-
At least if everyone posts similarly detailed photos of the coins they'll be returning, it'll be pretty evident which ones end up being palmed off as replacements!
-
Gosh, I think I might video my own opening of the package just so there can be no dispute over who or what may have caused any dings.

Bullion by Post have a Black Friday Sale - 1% off gold, 2% off silver.

Maybe this is the real reason for each mintage quantity being 100 more than it needed to be!

I just noticed you bought these in the future! Can you tell us what the next Sovereign looks like?

This isn't going to do my OCD any good at all
I hope this doesn't make it worse... but where were the full Sovereigns being sold for £545?

HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING.... What's the best thing to do with a 5-coin set with COA number 001?
-
-
I've just noticed my 3-coin set (still an open order) has an order date of "17 November" even though I ordered it on the 15th. Odd!

The 5 coin Sovereign set has landed. Thank you to @paulmerton for the early morning link on Monday! Great to be part of this wonderful TSF community.
I'd just like to thank everyone for their gratitude over this. One member (I won't name them unless they want!) even wanted to send me some money as a thank you for posting the magic link, which was incredibly humbling! But the offer alone was thanks enough for me as I was totally not expecting anything as gracious as that. Besides, I will hopefully be receiving my own Sovereigns today, assuming nothing has gone wrong with my order!

Bizarre goings-on this morning!
I popped out to post a letter, but saw a DHL van go past the end of my road. When I got to the end of my road, I could see it had turned into another junction to turn around and was heading back towards mine!
Realising the significance of this, I was poised to run back up my road just in case it was about to drop off some lovely Sovereigns.
Had it gone past my road by mistake and was merely turning around to get back to it?
No! It just sailed past.
I bravely post my letter anyway.
I return to find no DHL undelivery notes (phew), but then I go to check my Royal Mint account and notice that the 5-sov set is indeed in my Closed Orders list, but no payment has been taken - it's even disappeared from my list of pending transactions now!
Ruh roh!

Thanks for the news! Are we expecting only double, full and half sovereigns to be available as bullion?
