    What, 10% premium?
... and you have to calculate the premium for yourself, unlike more user friendly sites.

Build some cash holdings, pay down any debt, start to work on a secure job. Split your money and add a bit into a good stock market fund every month. I use lindsell train global equity.  Consider about 20% in gold and silver.

Gold is part of the answer. I buy silver less than spot in 925 form. So easy, so so cheap.

    I just buy gold.
I will continue to buy each month until I retire in about 9 years.
I look at the spot price but it doesn't influence my buying strategy.
I still reckon PM's will preserve my wealth against inflation.

I fear the days of readily available cheap pre-1920 coinage may be ending (unless you are in the biz and have contacts that buy and sell big weights). The desirability over the later, less pure stuff plus the fact that it is recognisable silver and sometimes has numismatic value (whether real or perceived) means it's a bugger to find at spot or thereabouts.
Please prove me wrong by providing links 😜
I'm a bit dubious over stacking loads of .500. I like the coins, have a few little piles and I will never turn down a fantastic deal, but stuff like Sterling or .900 Yankee metal feels like a better bet to me instinctually.

I'm basically only on the gold train now as Brexit (thanks leavers) really doesn't make Silver an appealing investment IMO anymore. Helps that the current spot price of silver is considerably over my average buy in price as well.

Yup, any junk or .925 silver at spot or less, but focussing on gold right now
(still fond of some hand-poured .999 silver though... it's my weakness)

The easiest method as far as I can tell is to use Nitric Acid, which is unavailable to Joe Public in the UK.
Look up Sreetips on YouTube, he does a lot of refining at home with various methods, mostly with Nitric but is US based.

I'd suggest getting them hallmarked as gives your prospective buyers confidence in the bars and that they don't have a steel core

I have tried this - there just isnt a market for home poured 925 bars. No one wants unhallmarked ones and good luck getting a premium on them. I have access to a lot of scrap silver and had to start refining again

I'm not sure on the exact law but I don't think you are allowed to melt coins that were deemed circulating currency after 1969. So the life of a junk coin probably permanently exists on eBay. Which I always find strange the fact we are paying for a product based upon it's metal content but it's then unlawful to use that metal that you paid for. Having said that I wouldn't have thought any of the bullion coins get melted down either. Personally I favour the pre decimal. They pretty much sell instantly for the same ish premium over spot that what you bought them for. As for a time of crisis your probably better of having some bog roll and some pasta.

So I went i lille overboard after getting the taste for shiny gold.
And this is what I ended up getting in a month.
    1x 1oz gold Buffalo 2021
    1x 1/2oz Armenian noah's ark
    2x gold sovereigns
The sovs are a funny story. As I went to pick up the Buffalo, I asked the store about sovs. He said he had some. So I asked for a price. He said 10% over spot. Then he put in a "but". If I was to buy 2x sovs he would throw in something special. So what I ended up getting was 2x sovs the 1 being a 1890 and the something special was an 1883 sov. Selling me both at a total of 770eur.
Looking at the prices in general for the 1883 I accepted in a calm but fast way.
    Very Very happy

This is hilarious, BUT I would seriously leave this up as a message to sellers to communicate.

You did the right thing not naming the seller but communication is all part of the process when it comes to buying and seling, and the more everyone can make that experience better for other forum member the better.

Even if this is all ok, it’s just rude not to confirm receipt. Hopefully you will get this sorted. I wouldn’t rely on any person who bought membership, treat them the same as anyone else and do due diligence.

My tuppence worth. Was any timescale mentioned when purchasing regarding posting? If not personally, I would wait until after postman had passed by my door tomorrow then pm seller again. Then if seller was on forum or read your pm and didn't reply, I would have no problem in naming and shaming them.  All the Best J.
