I just had a private message here on the forum from a new account about buying 97.65 % pure gold dust at a cheap price from the ivory coast.
I have reported it and the new account will hopefully be banned soon.
If anyone gets these kind of unsolicited messages remember, if it seems too good to be true it probably is....
Just report to admins, don't reply.
    Stay safe.

I've just received this email from European Mint with regards to a Law change: Titled: no more VAT free silver in 2022
As expected for many years, due to the pressure from Brussels, the Estonian Government will introduce a new VAT Act amendment in 2022, the new amendment wants to effectively end the VAT-Free Silver, Platinum and Palladium in Estonia.

Estonia is currently the only EU country which has a VAT Act, which legally allows people to buy precious metal coins without VAT, that same law will now come to an end in 2022, and a new more restrictive law will come into place!
So much for Brexit being an issue, the EU were onto this anyway!

Another side of it - and this is the reason pawn shops are able to operate as well - you're pretty much guaranteed quick cash with a dealer and sometimes if you don't have a cash buffer that access to instant cash can become more important than the losses you might incur. As much as we all love silver I do really wish this topic would get discussed more often especially with newer members. As important as I think both gold and silver are - having a rainy day fund in cash is probably more important. You never want to find yourself suddenly facing a bill that needs to be immediately paid and not have the funds available for it as this is when you'll get desperate and need to liquidate whatever you have likely at steep losses.

As Chris says sometimes price isn't someone's main consideration. Speed might be preferable if someone doesn't have the luxury of choosing their selling time in advance.
Re the vat, gold seems a better option rarely having to pay more than 3 to 5% premium compared to silver at 50% plus... Who knows what the prices will do in the future maybe silver will work out to be more profitable, If I was just starting over now or I could only choose 1 metal as a UK based person I'd probably start with gold.

If you get the discounted seller offer on eBay then you know the drill.
It will be much more time consuming and laborious, but definitely a much better return, splitting the Britannias and selling individually.
Maybe list here rather than eBay unless you have the £1.00 selling offer or similar otherwise the deductions will hurt your net receipts.
However shifting 20 + coins individually may not be worth the effort and inconvenience according to your circumstances.
Personally I have rarely seen a set of anything sell for what a set collector thinks it is worth.
Finally I would hesitate selling any silver right now unless there is a really good reason as it is too low according to my tea-leaves.

    Hello
I am working my way through selling my silver and have had excellent responses from Forum members
I am a bit stuck now as I cannot find a realistic price for my set of 10 oz Queens Beasts and my date run of Britannias (1997/2021) together with all the varieties including the edge privies (13 apart from the pig.)
I would not want to split the Beasts - can any help with a realistic valuation for these two lots?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Frank

I recall fiscal year 2019/20 the UK deficit was about £11.5bn. The calculated Scottish deficit was £11bn.
It's going to be a very tricky budget to balance when the Scottish Nationalist Party have their way.  Especially now they are promising to go green, so all that oil will stay where it is.

My accountants are the one bill I’m happy to pay every year! For sure they charge me a fair old fee, legally though they likewise create a small fortune in savings that same period. Whether it be general tax breaks, pension contributions etc for the simplicity of handing over my yearly transactions, I get a full breakdown for tax submission a few weeks later, without any stress or head scratching.
A good accountant is worth paying for.

On top of the crippling money printing, the Biden administration deliberately sabotaged cheap energy in the US, by ending the fracking boom and shutting down US Canada pipeline construction.  Cheap energy makes everything possible, without it everything becomes expensive and the global price of oil has shot up as a result of Biden's supply restrictions.  When you throw sand in your own gearbox like that, it really shouldn't come as a surprise when it stops working!  A lot more to come as the cost of energy starts to bite.  Complete clowns!

VelociteeSteel reacted to LawrenceChard in Fake and Imitation Coins from China
We have seen increasing quantities and variety of fake coins , made in China, of many different types of coins, for about the last 10 years.
Producing replica / counterfeit / imitation coins, and almost anything else, seems to be big business in China.
China does not participate in copyright, design, or patent protection, with a few possible exceptions. All this is apparently perfectly legal in China, and almost certainly encouraged by the Chinese government, possibly to undermine western democracies, or as part of an economic trade war.
Mostly we have encountered these from owners who have bought one or more on ebay, or sometimes from the guy in the pub, an "antique shope", flea market, car boot sale, Amazon, Facebook, and the rest. Sometimes they have paid hundreds of pounds, thinking they were getting some rare coin at a bargain price, others have paid £20, £10 ore even less, and are still happy when told they have a fake, even when told that they could have got the same thing, generally via Ali Express, for a few pound, even taking postage into account. I am usually too polite to tell them bluntly how stupid I think they have been, and it is frustrating that mostly they are not interested in buying any genuine coins, but still expect to pick my / our brains free of charge.
For many years, I / we have been highlighting some fake coins on our websites, for a number of reasons, mainly for education, but in an attempt to help spread some knowledge and experience, hoping it might help some people from being ripped off. This is time consuming, and I have not always had enough spare time to do it, until the last year or two.
In recent months, I had been thinking about buying a selection of modern Chinese fake coins from China, but was spurred on by a topic post about a month ago about 1841 fake gold sovereigns being offered, and sold, on ebay. I contributed to that discussion. I received a package of about 30 to 40 various fakes last week, in one delivery consolidated from 9 different suppliers. Somehow I seem to have missed the 1841 sovereign off the orders, so I need to get back on and add one.
A TSF member asked if I would start a separate topic here, so here goes.
The two posts I have already added, under Today I Received, were:
    A 1933 Penny

    and a 1934 Crown:
I will be adding information such as the cost from China, plus notes about reseller prices in the UK, and probably a few choice comments about the greediness, lack of ethics of the advertisers / sellers, and possibly about the buyers, all while trying to keep it polite, which could require considerable restraint.
As always, feedback, questions, and comments are welcome.
    🙂
