StackemHigh got a reaction from Pete in 1/10 oz Platinum Kookaburra 2021
I've checked all my usual go to dealers in the UK for this Kook and i can find one that even has a listing. Platinum is just so damn difficult to collect in the UK between dealers not getting any, VAT and import charges.

I've always been a collector of stuff like many small kids are, postcards on holidays and key rings from interesting places i've been but after a bad motorcycle accident and a house fire my priorities changed. I became free and loose with wine women n song and this is where precious metals stopped a downward spiral into marriage and children. I saved some old UK 5p pieces the old one bob (very like 5Dm coins of the time) and on trips to west Germany i bought several porn mags from the vending machines at motorway services. Good times were had drinking in Germany and the mags helped pay for the trips. On a later trip to Berlin after the wall i was walking around a flee market and spotted some old reich marks and some Bismark metals going very cheap so i bought them and quickly sold them on too. Unfortunatly the old coins buy turned into getting any coins gold or silver from home or abroad to turn a profit. A pocket full did make for some very good holidays in europe. The lads holidays away stopped but the coins have remained.
A few years ago i made the biggest mistake / regret of my collecting life i sold nearly all of my collection and bought some gold. I have since rebought most of it
Today i'm a collector of mainly silver and more recently gold. I still buy any old / new coin i like but now i keep most of it, I'll trade with a small group of friends into metals to get what i like.
I do like the Perth Mint products with their three lunar series, kooks and wedge-tailed eagles favorites. Annual typeset collections of these and other coins keep me away from the pub like the old days but i still go to music gigs in europe and bring back some gold bullion hidden in my wallet. I never go anywhere without some empty filps in there too.

StackemHigh got a reaction from Wampum in Acceptable Premium on Platinum?
Over the last few months i've been looking at buying a little more platinum as silver has become expensive with VAT and higher premiums than previously used too.
Where oh where can i buy a 1/4 T oz of platinum for less than £600 - £700 range? All my usual sources have no Pt or are even more expensive. I'm probably only wanting a few different Pt coins over the next year but i can't spend this amount on Pt when Gold is around £360 - £400 per 1/4 T oz!!!!
Gold price is substantualy higher but cheaper to buy even when VAT is added to Pt.
Is the secondhand special scheme a legitamized scam?
Gold is around £1312 T oz
and
Platinum is around £805 T oz

StackemHigh got a reaction from Knight in Royal Mint Prince Phillip Sovereign Set
I had a look at the offer. The colour and relief in both coins shows in detail that the rm has gone down in making the sovereign over the years. The old gold sov in my opinion is far better looking than the copper gold new sov.

StackemHigh got a reaction from Coverte in Sir Walter Scott coins out on the RM
I think if the price was right and the quality in design and manufacture was ever present then these coins aimed at the average person on the street would buy them and make them a success.
Winnie the pooh , Padington , Alice , Mr Men and the like should have enough general collectors out there to sell out but they don't the question is Why?
Is it just coin collectors that these coins are aimed at then yes too many but i'm thinking that the royal mint is trying badly to get more people to buy their expensive badly designed and poorly made tat.
The errors on the H.G. Wells coin were shocking even for the royal mint!

For stacking it has to the cheapest £ to pure T oz ratio taking into account the alloy content.
-
StackemHigh reacted to AppleZippoandMetronome in At what point do you feel royal mint proofs are just to much??
The premium is one thing but then when you add in how bad the quality often is... the coins really need to be a super safe bet to be worth bothering with. They release a lot I like but until they sort their sh!t out in terms of quality my money is going elsewhere. Its just not worth the price and potential headache of multiple returns to get something that is either worth having in a collection or actually possible to sell on for profit.

StackemHigh got a reaction from Wampum in Is the secondhand special scheme for silver a scam???
Asking if anyone has seen any proper deals on silver using the secondhand special scheme or is it legitamized scam?
WIthout the TAX of the scheme silver and other precious metals should workout as a proper deal but all i've seen is huge premiums.
