Thanks for letting us know.

Really nice design, but wrong hat for the invisible man and 4 legs should be 3 for a tripod.

Not sure if they were added for a bit of quirkiness or just genuine mistakes?

Wasn't this coin released as part of a set months ago?

Strange to see it pop up again...

yep, too many legs....

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

Yeah it was released a while ago but think it was just a basic BU £2coin....I remember people saying about the HAT and the 4 legs instead of 3!!!! Why they have got that wrong surprises me..."or does it?" The RM havnt been on top of things lately to say the least.....

Id love to see the mint do a Karl Pilkington one. Just to see the round headed idiots face on the obverse with the queen on t'other!

Many of the £2 proof coins have very good designs on them. The problem is, especially with the silver proofs is the production quality of the newer ones is poor leading to marks and instant toning like staining. The older ones seems fine and age gradually as you would expect.

Errors in my opinion. Shocking, as they’ve already practiced on the Invisible Man design when they made the Elton John coins.

I agree. I started out as a collector buying BU coins in the £10 packs 5 years ago before I stepped up to silver proofs. Although I moved up to a few modern gold commemoratives, my interest is in 19th century gold now.

If the RM brought out a modern commemorative that I really liked I would steer clear of a silver proof and buy the BU version instead. All my old BU coins are fine but the same can’t be said for some of my silver proofs. My last purchase from the Mint was the silver proof Una in 2019, another coin that’s let me down.

What's happened with your Una?

Yeah I don't know about this one.   I mean if you are going to commemorate H. G. Wells, you would think getting the details right would be the most important aspect of any R&D.

Absolutely, I can imagine 100 years from now at Antiques Roadshow...

So, Mr Jones, remind me again for the 5th time, why did you buy a H.G. Wells commemorative coin with 4 legs on what should be a tripod and a top hat 🎩 for the invisible man? 😋😅

Is a nice design though.

Although the Martian machines have either 3 or 5 legs, this design is contemporary so the 4 legs are not a mistake just part of the adaptation by the artist.

The coin was part of the year set pre released earlier this year in advance.

Sorry folks for the late reply. The silver Una developed a milk spot in the field behind Una’s head. The coin looked fine with the naked eye on delivery but had a noticeable milk spot last time I checked. I haven’t any decent lens to show a decent photo.

Oh that's c**p...was it the bullion or proof..not that it matters..milkspots are our enemy no matter what coin they appear on..☹☹☹

It’s the proof coin. No more RM silver proofs for me since the 2019 Una. My more recent gold purchases were on the secondary market.

We seem to be way off topic here, but as you’re the topic author it’s only fair to answer your question 👍

Back on topic, I moved away from modern gold commemoratives (such as this HG Wells issue), preferring 19th century sovereigns instead, like a lot of TSF members (I think).

Mistake for sure the rm hasn't got any sort of grasp of any of the source work they celibrate. Just look at the lacklustre alice in wonderland coins. They have sat the designers in front of a tv and shown them some old movie and said you've got till lunchtime tomorrow to design us a coin!

It really is a crying shame. When you consider the wealth of talented artists and graphic designers who would give their right arms to have the chance to design a coin for the Royal Mint only to see some of the poorly designed first draft efforts they seem to green light.
