They are what they say on the tin, bullion best values sovereigns so quality is a lottery.
I have had some from Tavex that were immaculate but also had some with edge knocks, scratches etc.  If your looking for good condition only you cant really go for best value bundles, though at that price you could move on any your not happy with and likely get your money back

Thanks for the advice!

not exactly a deal at £447 each but availability for anyone after the Tudor Lion 1/4oz that maybe missed out originally 👍🏼

Good find. This is really a beautiful coin, I like it more than the Yale. And even more than the first series!

Agreed. This series will be a ‘sleeper’ - as time goes on I think they will become scarcer. Looking forward to the next two releases this year.

Young Head sovs cheaper on the continent from €449.95 (£397.19) + plus post

https://www.europeanmint.com/british-gold-sovereign-queen-victoria-young-head-coin/ €449.95 looks to be a fixed price listing (5 available)

https://goldsilver.be/en/gold/2004-full-gold-sovereign-1891.html €452 adjusts to spot (30 availble)

Shipping from the EU so postage and hassle make it less of a deal but interesting to me that there is less mark up for Young Head sovs on the continent than with UK dealers.

I have had young heads for sale at £410. When you add the added risk and delivery from Europe, they will probably end up being more expensive and you do not get to see the photo of the coin you will get.

It seems when it comes to Young head, it is shield back and others are just treated like any other Victoria sovereign.

Noticed European Mint has a UK phone number but are based in Estonia and the UK is not on their delivery list for EU countries.

I bought a Memorial Sovereign today from Harrington & Byrne for £389. I called them, in response to a recent "junk mail" item from them.

Not sure if you can get the same deal just by calling them without a reference number. They asked me the ref number on the letter (I guess it's unique...).

Good spot... I've added it to the comparison chart - it should update in the next cycle or so...

I was chatting with a chap from Malta the other day and he was just about to buy a couple of shields off somebody for 450 Euros each.  I don't think sovs are really such a big deal outside the UK.  Folks do collect or stack them, but there aren't necessarily any advantages such as CGT exemption for doing so.  In some countries (NZ, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia, for example) legal definitions of investment gold restrict it to .995 fine or better, so .900 or .917 gold coins don't qualify and get hit with the local equivalent of VAT.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

Big copper spots unfortunately

Decomposes at 160°C - you can get rid of them with an ordinary butane torch.  BYB has a video about this on YT.

Don't ask me how I know this works.

Yes I found it interesting that the young heads were priced cheaper than the QEII or GV sovs. All the sovs will likely find their way back to Blighty in the end..

I've recently found out how to translate the German comparison site Gold.de - you can sort by price per gram and it works out the premium. 2 Rand coins which have the same specs as sovs routinely go for less than spot +2%.

The lowest premium coin at the mo is a secondary grade 1oz Completer - spot + 1%

Now, the trick is to get them from Germany without getting rogered too hard for the shipping.  There are a few German and Swiss vendors that look good for certain types of PMs but the shipping costs mean you need to buy a few grand worth at a time to make it cost-effective.

Yep, price differences are too small to be worth it especially with all the deals here on the forum. Family/friends in Germany coming to visit would still be useful though, someone on here may be in that position.
