🤔😮a great looking coin👍 there appears to quite a lot of 1989 sovereigns selling recently 😮🤔🤔

I never thought I would buy one, but everyone knows I can't resist a bargain. Maybe I'll upgrade it to a full sovereign one day!

Well done, I think the half is the only one I could vaguely afford 🤔😮

Back when coin sets came with a pair of special gloves! (in an envelope under the box)

All of the coins in this set are sterling silver and struck by the Franklin Mint. They're still in excellent condition, thankfully having never been removed from the card and prodded with special gloves. It is a nice set.

Oh no! I've been scammed (although probably not on purpose)

Despite the paperwork indicating that all of the coins are struck in sterling silver, they are all cupronickel according to my sigma tester (the smallest two denominations are aluminium).

How disappointing! :( Goes to show you should never rely on a COA alone, though.

I have one of those sets, will have to check mine 😳

A coin is not only a store of value but a store of beauty.

I certainly had no suspicions until I double checked with the sigma, which makes the situation clear. If you put it into raw measurement mode, the resistivity of sterling silver is close to 2, whereas 75% cupronickel is about 30-35, and aluminium is around 5. The readings I get are commensurate with it being the base metal proof set. That's why I like it when the only versions of a coin are silver and cupronickel, as the resistivity is completely different, whereas distinguishing sterling silver from pure copper is less easy as they both read so close to each other.

I have no doubt the seller will put it right and I don't really blame them too much - the paperwork says "Like the new ten-dollar coin, the remaining coins in this set were minted in solid sterling silver and also depict the fascinating tropical birds native to Belize."

Someone must have done a switcheroony at some point, or the wrong paperwork was included in the first place. Who knows!

My set is 1974 the 10 dollar is a different image to yours, also a couple of the smaller coins’  lettering differs.

They are also in a sealed plastic wrapper.

 I have added a photo.

Good to hear.

I just had a look at my both sets and hadn't actually realised they were different.

74 & 75. Both mine check out fine on sigma too. 🫣

Not that this helps you much @paulmerton but hope you get it sorted. Genuine mistakes happen now and again though.

I'm sure it will be sorted out without any problems, but I'll be sure to let everyone know if there are any issues 🤣

2006 Gold Proof £1 Egyptian Arch

Featuring the Dublin-Belfast railway Egyptian Arch Bridge designed by Sir John MacNeill, a one time associate of Thomas Telford, this 2006 £1 coin was designed by wood engraver Edwina Ellis. Although the rarest of the four coin gold collection (mintage just 1,195) it is, sadly and undoubtedly, the least attractive - more Edwina Currie than Ellis.

The coin is the penultimate individually minted au round £1 to enter my ongoing collection (now 23 designs), just the 2015 4th Portrait remaining elusive.

My thanks to @Earthmetal for a magnificent example of this proof pug...and also to @MancunianStacker for starting me on this auric snark-hunt.
