mr1030 reacted to noddycoder in Are you still buying gold now its went up in price?
As soon as I get spare cash I'll be buying more metals, probably gold, not so much silver these days. My timing is cr*p, so I just by when I have spare funds.
I first started buying at £300/oz, recently bought at £1295/oz. It's gut wrenching when you make a purchase then watch the price drop, but if you're comfortable with the long-term fundamentals driving the gold price then you just ride the dips out.

Stunning 1912 Canda $10 dollar gold coin rare low mintage only 1912 - 1914 with the 1912 being the rarest, brought to you in high definition mint state lustre!!
    Canada’s First Gold Coin
Canada produced its first gold coin in 1908, but that was a UK Sovereign.
Four years later, came the $10 gold and it was unmistakably Canadian.
Each coin is struck on a 900 Fine Gold 26.92 mm planchet and weighs 16.72 Grams (.4838 oz Fine Gold). The obverse features a crowned portrait of King George V. The reverse bears Canada's Coat of Arms which was originally adopted in 1868
Almost all of the gold used for the coins came from the nearby Klondike River Valley in the Yukon Territory, the site of one of the largest and most frenzied gold rushes in history.
    Short-lived
With the outset of the First World War, the Canadian gold coin program was closed in favour of gold bars.
As Canadians fought the war, its government took a tight hold of its gold reserves, with almost all of the coins produced for circulation never reaching the public.
Instead, they were tucked away in the vaults of the Bank of Canada.

I love South American coins, especially because many have the weight and purity on them. I live in Colombia have bought several this past year at spot (mostly from Colombia). Many are worn and in used condition, not BU. Some are proof coins with wear; it's a shame they were not taken care of. But gold is gold, right? Especially when able to get them at spot or lower sometimes. There are not many options of buying or a huge gold market like in other countries.

Doesn't always happen but think this is one of those occasions where slabbing has increased resale value 2x

Just graded & on their way back from NGC… Those Libs are a nightmare to get a 70 🙈. Quite a few will be up for sale once they are back.. No idea of the value of the 2018 reverse proof set RP69, any help gratefully received.

A small section!  Many books On treasure wrecks are cheap as chips because they are from the 1960’s onward and are second hand and out of print.
Some books are expensive because of small print runs or were privately published.  I recently purchased “Money of their own” By Murray Teigh Bloom about counterfeiters after finding a reference to is on @LawrenceChard’s website.  A fascinating read with a good chapter on a Sovereign counterfeiters!

Neither of them are money. Bills, salary, mortgage, fuel, taxes, shopping, night out on the beers. All require both to be exchanged for fiat.
On the flip side, whist out shopping with my fiat, buying my hummus and Perrie water. I could just put these in the basket. No exchanges, all private, there is no extra charge at the till, there I no charge to move them to my man bag, if I wanted to send it to a friend to keep in his safe, no charge and when I'm ready, sell it on here without charge.
