Saw a video the other day and thought this guy handled the coin like a bossman and either didn't care or he didn't know how proof coins should be handled. (Not one to tell how to handle the coins but i feel this isn't the way, for me anyways.)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJCJWFUDKKQ
His really enjoying the coin and I wondered any one else enjoy their proof coins to the fullest like this with their bare hands.
Wish I can handle my proof coins like this but something tells me I can't without blemishes appearing. (I think he created a blemish on the coin after too as example. )
    Thanks

Its best to handle coins at your local dealer 😀 ask to see a rare choice proof coin then pop it out of the capsule quickly before they can say NOOOOoooooo 🙈 😅

It's not a criticism whatsoever, as I always appreciate the very kind thought and gesture at that time of year, but let's be honest you've sent me worse mate

Tricky one this one. Most mere mortals and potential bag holders will be wary of over extending. Deep pockets will have no problems. Those inbetween will half arse it and buy the silver version and not be burned too much if it tanks.

Me….for all the reasons above and concerns  regarding designs and mintage plus endless array of coins longterm in terms of possibilities i.e. dilution and RM proof coin collecting….I’m out. Good luck to everyone. I will take my chances on this one in the secondary proof coin market a year or two down the road maybe.
I am just struggling to see the value in this series. I see the cost but not the value. Having said all that, if it goes the way ofthe Queen’s Beasts, then there will be money to be made as long as there are buyers of a limited range of mintage….one thing to its advantage is that so many of us ordinaryfolk are tapped out at point of entry due to a slew of buying these last few months, that those thatdodip in may be in rarified air if the number of coins bought is less than any mintage.

I don' t have the 2017 proof to compare, but the Pistrucci Anniversary Strike on the Day of the same year looks similar to a proof (in grading terms PL - Proof Like) in terms of contrast. However that year's proof may be even more stunning, I don't know - I've never had both in hand at the same time.
For 2018 I have both Proofs and SotDs (Sapphire Coronation). The Coronations are very close, they are absolutely stunning strikes, but the frosting (matte) and polished fields are slightly better (deeper, clearer) on the proofs. It is clear to me they had higher quality dies and/or more strikes.
I don't have any 2019/20/21 proofs but I was quite shocked when I got my 2022s just how much less impressive they were than either the 2017 SotD or 2018 (both Proof and SotD), just as Dave says. I'd be very interested indeed to find out when the quality dropped and if it was dramatic, or a gradual decline from 2019 onwards.
In any case, from 2019 the SotDs have been Matte, so can't be compared to regular Proofs (maybe they did this deliberately?!!).

All getting a bit spicy with these growing prerelease premiums! Wonder if we’ll reach the point where it’s actually cheaper to buy it off one of the instant flippers on release.

Whilst I like the sound of this and think it will potentially be the RM playing to its strengths...  could they not give it a rest for a while?!? Just had an email this morning apologising that my silver proof annual set is delayed potentially until the end of February and know from seeing posts here and on FB that many others are awaiting open orders. They really should be sorting all these out before contemplating yet another release.

@watchesandwhisky My 4 coin set was dispatched today. Be careful and check your emails. I had to phone up and reverify my card because of the length of time, the authorisation had dropped off. This might be an issue with second engraver coin to I feel.

Just checked and mine has also moved to closed orders, with a tracking number - no email though. Hopefully they're perfect after this long wait.

In which case, the Mint should make them sovereign size so that more people can afford and enjoy them.  Their policy of releasing large gold coins does not seem to be very "inclusive"!

100% agree. Having skin in the game with this one I’m really hoping this is the only issue of a SOTD plain edge matte sovereign with the special reverse. Nice low mintage compared to the proof and would clearly do wonders for its future collectibility.
Though saying that, what’s the usual number of SOTD Sovereign releases per year that we have seen recently? 2/3?
Theres probably more chance of my child’s rocking horse taking a s**t than the RM only releasing one SOTD Sov this year.
