kimchi reacted to ZRPMs in Store of value?
I might be showing my age a little but here we go. Being self employed most of my working life I used to pay for income insurance. I never thought it was too expensive for the peace of mind it gave me at £26 a month. Roll on about 15/ 16 years with only a modest increase to I think the last payment I made was just over £30. the company was Cirencester friendly. I took ill. Started coughing blood up. Panic sets in, thinking the worst. no energy and couldn't work. eventually got a diagnosis of Sarcoidosis. Curable and not the big C. Any how tried to claim on the insurance. All I could get from them was 2 lots of £80. That's after paying in, lets say an average of £28 X 12 months X 15 years = £5040. Had I been putting the money into Sovereigns instead of the insurance. not only would I have still had my £5k but the ones bought at the beginning would have been worth more than 7 times what I'd paid for them. Sound's like a great store of value to me.

kimchi got a reaction from Relm in Just thinking out loud!
My late father's former union organised and paid for legal action against his employer due to the life-threatening condition he developed due to their working conditions. He would have been pretty powerless otherwise (I'd actually previously engaged another legal firm for him myself who wrongly said his case was hopeless and told us we couldn't proceed).
That said, at the top level the union bosses are all part of the sham 'game' with government. It was all orchestrated in the 70s and 80s to de-power the working men (force a crisis that only affected the people - not the fat cats - and close the coal mines etc).
Exactly the same is happening now (except the unions are even more of a puppet, thanks to Blair and successors taking Maggie's baton) . Unless you think that nurses strikes etc at a time when elderly folk are being told they can't heat and eat is a coincidence - all because of Putin, climate change, and post-covid supply issues, of course
Basically the unions are just another player in the grander scheme of things, but (the way they make them so, otherwise no-one would join) as an individual they can be priceless.

Being in a union is still important. The problem is that unions got to powerful in the 70s and then got hammered by Maggie. With some jobs more than others it is important to be in a union to protect yourself from spurious claims against you. A lot of people don’t bother, but then if they have an issue it is very difficult and expensive to try and sort things without union support.

The less of these that sell the better, I would say these should do well (once any QC problems have been sorted out)

I'm going to keep the Memorial sovereigns I have bought.. the reason is two things
1.. It's the first sovereign with a new monarch on it in 70 years and this design is absolutely stunning..
2 They will all go with the 2022 Platinum Jubilee sets and sovereigns and make a nice pair ...I'm sure these sets will only increase in value...So I'm not really worried if people dont buy them or cancel their orders..
I do hope that Royal Mint stick to their word and you cannot purchase anymore after 31st December..But not holding my breath lol

I am feeling really guilty now, always recommending 'Gillick' Sovereigns on TSF. So own up! - Who told the RM that 'real' gold sovereigns were minted in the past and even 'circulated.' I am very angry because this was supposed to be our little secret! Now they've jumped on the band-wagon to make a killing: not withstanding the inconvenience someone has caused the RM to 'buy-back' 500 bullion Sovereigns from somewhere. No wonder the're expensive!.......😁

If these coins and sets were a good purchase a month ago, why is it any different now? I agree that the delays are unacceptably long, but patience is a virtue. If anything, given the number of cancellations being mentioned, they’re an even better buy than they were.

I've just cancelled 13k worth of orders with the Royal Mint and it might be a bit more in the morning. It's becoming utterly pointless I've waited a YEAR I'll say that again a YEAR for coins that they are still tossing me off. I've also dumped some 2022 memorial sets are no way I'm I loading up on those now with a February delivery date.
It feels like we are being stitched up like a kipper, especially when theres likely to be 2 proof sovereigns in 2023. I might keep hold of 2 of the memorial 5 coin sets but thats about it for me.
Going forward folks if they don't dispatch coins within the same month they take the money for I've got a feeling they will get bombarded with cancellations.

Am starting to think about cancelling the 4 coin set as well now. Probably keep the single on order with COTR as I’d still like one of the 1st KCIII Sovs and it’s a fine looking coin but I just can’t be arsed to wait that long having parted with the cash already. Seems upside down

Time will tell. Everyone has anecdotal stories. I have never had a problem with any RM gold sov issues or secondary dealers. That is all

These sovereigns might land at the same time as the free tudor beast box 😆 hell they may arrive in a tudor beast box ffs.

kimchi reacted to BullionBuyerUK in 2022 Sovereign design revealed?
To my thinking, it's not really acceptable to make people wait so long for a flagship coin that a lot of people would have been looking forward to. But, that is unfortunately the case with these memorial sovereigns. On here when there was a leaked photo posted nearly everyone loved it, I still do think the coin looks amazing. I've maxed out every penny on my RM account to get these coins and sets, but I do think the price is quite high, and it is hard to justify that, so I will just wait until the coins finally do arrive and make my mind up then, can always send it back if I don't like it.
