Not necessarily. You just need to sell a few pieces to trusted members on here and send the coins before being paid. The resulting feedback should sort sort out your stripes. Doing this puts you in a better position than a buyer sending the money blind; you will know their address. Simples.

I was deep in sleep very early this morning, when I got the eerie feeling that my name was being mentioned somewhere.
Now I am wide awake, I can spring to the defence of my honorary title of Pedant in Chief.
    So:
Carat and its abbreviation ct. is English.
Karat and its abbreviations kt. and k. are Americanisms.
American, sometimes called American English, United States English, U.S. English, is a language similar to English, used by most of the population of the North American Continent.
The word "carat" is used to denote the proportion of gold in its alloys, and also for the weight of diamonds and other gemstones.
Americans use the word karat to denote the proportion of gold in its alloys, but inconsistently use the word carat for the weight of diamonds and other gemstones.
There is an argument in favour of karat rather than carat, as both words are derived from the Greek keraton, referring to the seeds of the carob tree.
Now, to be really pedantic, I should point out that 22ct gold is not 91.67% gold, but 91.66', where I have used ' to denote "recurring". Much depends on the use of approximation; how, when, where, and why it is used. The problem arises because base 24 numbering systems are not perfectly compatible with base 10 (decimal) systems.
It follows from this that there are no 24ct or 24k gold coins, only coins which are approximately 24ct. Even .99999 fine gold coins like some Canadian Maples are only 23.99976ct.
Thank you all for your mentions.

Rumistacker reacted to SilverStorm in Is 100oz Silver Enough?
My only advice on stacking (regardless of which PM) is that you look after your daily/monthly/annual needs first.  There's no point buying and stacking PM if you hit a financial road bump, and then forced to sell the metal at a loss.   So this means taking care of rent/mortgage/utilities/retirement plan/health plan/etc first.   And then have enough cash savings on hand in the bank - just in case you get laid off from work, and you need cash to pay your bills.   So anywhere from 3-6 months of your salary.   Then if you got any extra money left, you can then consider buying some silver or gold.   Good luck!

I can see you have already had a number of varied responses.
I could add, no, the next stop is 100 kilos, followed by one tonne.
The owner of our local Chinese take-away recently told me "won tun very good".
I usually advise investors to buy gold because it is exempt from VAT in the UK and EU, whereas silver, platinum, and most other things are taxed. It doesn't make much sense to pay the government 20% tax up front on an investment. (This was the serious suggestion).
Be careful, because some of these TSF members will tell you that you have too much silver and offer to take it off your hands for a reasonable price. 😎

    Hi, and welcome!
I think you did very well 100oz silver in 6-9 month. Well done!🤗
100oz silver are not enough for your retirement.
For long term run, you need to be very consistent with your stacking. Try to set up in your monthly budget a certain percent for precious metals and buy more. But not only silver. And at the lowest premium possible, easy to sell when the time will come.
I don't know your monthly income, but if is a decent one you can spend every month 15-20% for gold and silver.
    Example:
    £2500 after taxes x 20% = £500 for precious metals per month.
    £500 = 1 gold sovereign (£325) + 7oz silver (7  x  £25 = £175) monthly.
In one year you can add to your stack 12 sovereigns (87.84g equivalent pure gold) and minimum 84oz silver.
I don't know how old are you, but if your keeping expectation is 25 years, in your retirement pot can be 300 sovereigns (2196g equivalent pure gold) and @ 70kg silver. I can not predict a future price for gold and silver, but I am sure that will be a happy end comparing with bank savings account or NEST retirement pot.
    Happy stacking, my friend!🤗
    Stefan.

    Hello everyone 👋🏻
I’m fairly new to stacking precious metals. I only started this year (2021).
I’ve just reached my target of 100oz of silver & my question is…
Is this enough or should I continue to add each year? My plan was to reach 100oz and then lock it all away and sit back.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

When I saw the thread title "Dorset coin company", I wondered if it was about a "Dorset coin company", or The "Dorset Coin Company".
Folowed closely by the thought that if a TSF member was asking if Dorset Coin Company are trustworthy or reputable, then I might add my opinion that they indeed very honourable, and well -respected numismatists. In the past, I have dealt with them (mainly with Ernie, but I probably have spoken to Terry).
The actual thread, with the comment "Thanks for your money sucker. Ha ha" shocked me. No wonder some other TSF members queried how the previous conversation had been phrased. Being pedantic, he should at least have put a comma after the word money, but perhaps he was replying using his phone, which seems to make everyone lazy, and sloppy about spelling, punctuation, etc. 🙂
Perhaps Terry was having a particularly bad day, but even so, the comments are inexcusable for two reasons. The first because it's no way to talk to any customer, but the deeper reason is that it appears to reveal his true attitude to customers and collectors. Nobody with that attitude should be in the coin business.
When I did a Google search for DCC, their ebay shop was the first result, which is quite revealing. I wanted to find their website, but I guess ebay pay Google adwords to be able to hijack the top spot, and DCC's website is not fantastic; it loaded slowly with missing images, and it's my further guess that ebay is there main online sales channel, while their own website is of much less importance to them.
I took a further look at Google results, and found:
    "Dorset Coin Company dorsetcoincompany.com
Site will be available soon. Thank you for your patience! © Dorset Coin Company 2020."
in 20th place, but their actual live site dorsetcoincompany.co.uk failed to appear in the first 5 pages (50 results), so might as well not exist as far as Google is concerned.
My third guess is that DCC discovered that it's easy to use ebay to market your products, and also that it requires considerable effort and expenditure to create a website which can compete with ebay.
I sure am glad that I took the view back in 1998, that we needed our own company website. We experimented with ebay years ago, and hated it for enough reasons to fill a book.
What seems to have happened is that unless a business has a fully-functioning, all-singing, all-dancing, website, then it might as well pack up and go home. The alternative is to delegate your online presence to ebay, Amazon, and the like. This applies not just to the coin business. Talk to anyone with a food take-away; if they are not using JustEat, Deliveroo, etc, they probably don't get enough trade to stay in business, so they have to pay maybe 15% to 20% commission to get sales, and that probably means they have to increase their prices to pay for it, which means that you, the customer, ends up paying more. The same thing applies to hotels on sites such as Trip Advisor and Booking.com. These sites also want hefty commissions for booking through their sites, and have T@Cs which debar the hotel from charging lower prices to direct bookers. I intensely detest this, and always try to book direct, but expect to get a better deal. Another example is review sites. While they are a good idea in theory, they are far from perfect, open to abuse, and they charge hundreds or thousands of pounds to allow companies to "manage" the feedback. It works a little like the old Mafia protection rackets.
My next thought is why @Leonmarsh enquired via ebay. I would have tried direct, and possibly suggested that as DCC would be saving (15%?) commission to ebay, they could pass it on as a discount instead. Of course, this does not guarentee a successful outcome. At least, buying from DCC, you could be reasonably sure the coin would be genuine...
... unlike https://atkinsonsbullion.com/gold/gold-coins/other-gold-coins/pre-owned-saudi-arabia-1-guinea-gold-coin, current price £339.13 although out of stock, where it seems you can be assured the coins will be fake "The photograph shows the type of coin you will receive, not the exact item.". The photos on ths page show a very obvious fake. I only became aware of this when @BackyardBullion posted a YouTube video
BYB was very kind about Atkinsons when he discovered the coin was fake, and reported that the problem was rectified, although I would not have had such kind thoughts.
I looked at Atkinsons website at the time, and they had two pages for Saudi Guineas, one generic and one for the specific date. Both had the same photos which were of a counterfeit, although BYB's coin was a different fake.
What surprised me at the time was that, weeks afterthe BYB incident, Atkinsons' website still had the same photographs of the same fake coin. It seems they had not thought to check whether the coin in their photos was genuine or fake. I have looked at the site and page occasionally since then, waiting to see if the would ever replace it (I have previouslly publicly commented about it). I checked again today, and have stopped being surprised that they still have the fake photos there. What does surprise me is to notice that more than two years have passed since the incident. (Where did the time go?).
I also just checked our website (not for images of fakes), here: https://www.chards.co.uk/1950-saudi-arabia-gold-one-guinea/1761 priced just under £370 (plus our additional postage charge!). It does say we are out of stock (actually it says "add stock alert" which I think we should re-word). Our photos are of a genuine coin (of course), all our coins are guaranteed genuine, and we do know the difference, and how to tell. The listing is for an ungraded "bullion" coin, but most of these Saudi Guineas are minty anyway. Just after the BYB video, we sorted through our stock of them, from memory about 20 coins, added them to our site, and sold them all quite quickly.
I may have upset two dealers with this single response, but c'est la vie! 🙂

The Silver Forum is built on trust and integrity.

Whilst we believe that members should utilise the trading feedback system and TSF itself should not intervene in members trading between each other. On this occasion we have decided that it is better for the community to close this member's account.
Members who wish to list items for auction please understand the risks of doing so, please see this topic here on hidden reserves not being allowed, which is linked to in the QuickStart Guide to trading, and suggests to list an auction at a minimum starting price you are willing to accept. Or, what is more recommended; simply list your trade listing as a ‘for sale’ with your asking price. You have more flexibility when listing a ‘for sale’ listing opposed to an auction, in a ‘for sale’ listing you can set your price and invite offers and then always reduce your price if there was no interest at your original asking price. Any item that is listed as an auction, the seller should uphold their word and sell at the final auction price to the applicable winning bidder. It is also not possible to list an auction on TSF if you have listed your items elsewhere.
Please complete any outstanding trades with @ali187 before 24th June 2021 (so by the end of 23rd June 2021 UK forum server time), when their account will then subsequently be closed.

Rumistacker reacted to ChrisSilver in No UK import VAT on Investment gold coins (VAT Notice 701/21A) from the EU
This post is designed to help those members in the UK who are buying gold from other members, either importing from the EU to the UK or from outside the EU to the UK

There are a lot of gold coins that are considered investment gold and therefore VAT exempt. There may therefore be opportunities for UK members to buy from the EU or other markets.

Using a Sovereign as an example, our understanding of the definition "is of a description of coin that is normally sold at a price that does not exceed 180% of the open market value of the gold contained in the coin" from information taken from UK dealers is that any sovereign, even those that sell for 10's of thousands of pounds do not attract any import VAT as a sovereign in general sells for not more than 180% of the spot price of gold.

The full information on what gold coins and type of other investment gold except can be found from the following link:

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/investment-gold-coins-and-vat-notice-70121a

Please also note that members may have experienced VAT incorrectly being added to gold imports into the UK, due to the description used by the sender. If VAT is incorrectly added you can usually claim back the full VAT (I have done this myself) however the courier admin charge (around £8 Royal Mail, and around £11 for other couriers like UPS, is not always claimable back, this depends on the reason why the incorrect VAT was applied)

This post is correct as far as our knowledge at the time of writing. It should not be constituted as legal or tax advise, members have the responsibility to do their own research and speak with any necessary advisers. TSF can not be held liable for any incorrect VAT that is applied by HMRC or any other import or taxes that are charged due to any purchases by members whatsoever.

Please check the government website, or start a topic in the discussion area of the forum if you would like to ask members questions and hopefully the TSF community can help. There are likely a lot of members who have experience of buying gold from abroad and can help

Items are listed in the regions they are located in. So UK members wishing to see items available internationally please see some of the below sections:

Members are reminded about the forum's pre-existing rules on Affiliate links.
    https://www.thesilverforum.com/guidelines/

I myself have refrained from using affiliate links on the forum, even though either myself or the forum could have profited significantly from sharing and advertising affiliate links. The reason for this is that I am trying to keep TSF free from spam, I also do not want to share links even though I could get a commission for doing so, as this is not the sort of place that I want TSF to become. (Though I reserve the right for TSF to use affiliate links in the future should we decide to do so. This has always been the case, however to this date we have not posted any affiliate links. If at such point we decided to do so, this would be done very sparingly and any affiliation would always be fully disclosed and transparent, so members are aware.) We hope that there is not ever the need to do this and that TSF can one day eventually be self sufficient from Premium Membership subscriptions and sponsored advertising alone.

I would however ask members to not share affiliate links, or to advertise members to message them for an affiliate link, as per the forum rules. We work hard to try to attract dealers to the forum, and TSF's advertising rates are extremely low, the majority of support for TSF comes from members choosing to purchase Premium Membership. If dealers could just get free advertising via affiliate links, then they would not join the forum or pay for advertising on the forum.

We have even discussed in the past the possibility of a special section for Premium Members to share affiliate links, but we had decided against this as we felt it would soon be full of members spamming the forum. In isolation a single affiliate link might seem OK, but if several hundred or even thousands of members started to post their affiliate links on the forum, it would soon be full of spam and this likely would put a lot of members off from viewing the forum. This would ultimately be harmful for the forum as well as all of the members of the forum who rely on TSF to be successful.

Please do not post affiliate links. All of the forum's rules are designed to benefit the community and for the future success and growth of the forum. At TSF we make decisions that are beneficial to the community and not for profit (hence why I have not posted affiliate links myself, and why we have maintained a completely free membership option)

Many thanks for all of the Premium Membership who support TSF and thank you to all members for following the forum's rules.
