I Wouldn't Buy Silver

By: Jordan Graveline

I would buy a nice haircut for $30
But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

I would buy a tank of gas for $60
And I have bought a night out for $90
But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

I would buy a TV cable package for $120/month
And I have bought a pair of shoes for $150
And I need to pay my cellular bill of $180
But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

I would buy car insurance for $200/month
And I have bought groceries for $400
And I need to pay my credit card of $700
And I want to buy a new snowblower for $1000
But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

I would rent a nice place for $1500/month
And I have bought a nice diamond ring for $3000
And I need to pay off my student loan of $7000
And I want to buy a vacation getaway for $20,000
And I should have my savings account at $50,000
But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

I would buy a washer and dryer for $3000
And I have bought artwork for $5000
And I need to pay off my car loan of $10,000
And I want to buy a new truck for $90,000
And I should have a portfolio worth $500,000
And I am going to pay $1,000,000 for a modest house…

But I wouldn’t buy silver for $30 an ounce

Overpriced?

If you can rent a nice place for $1500pm why would you buy a modest place for $1m (55 years rent upfront) especially given your outstanding student loan and car loan.

LOL

This isn’t a post about me. This is a post about humanity. You can view it as each line having been said by one individual at some point in his/her life. Or you can view each section as being said by a different person each time.

Life is full of needs and desires. We all have both to varying degrees. Maybe some people live more within their means and focus purely on the necessities of life. Others may lack direction and spread themselves out over all their wants and desires.

However one spends their hard earned currency this much is true, you need to prioritize your goals so that you aren’t wasting your dollars. As you correctly pointed out, if the person paying $1500 a month rent was indeed the same person looking to buy a house for $1,000,000, then that person would clearly be wasting their dollars.

All these things have a cost to them. Just look and analyze the situation at hand. The goods gradually increase in price and people will pay what they have to for their wants and necessities to be fulfilled. Seems ludicrous to me that people are willing to pay increasingly high prices for all these things, but are unwilling to spend $30 on an ounce of silver. Especially when $30 is a bargain.

how has buying silver at $30/toz last year worked out for people so far?

most/everything else on that list is performing as expected, except for the silver.

does it do what is says on the tin or do you need to join the 'down with the silver manipulation' crowd,

just to get what you paid for?

(for any who think it's a bargain at $30/toz, no one is stopping you from buying out the years production

of ~1 billion toz currently priced below 'bargain' prices)

is that supposed to be funny, trying to mock a post purely because it implies that any who

bought silver at $30/toz last year have clearly made a bad decision to do so?

how many of last years 1 billion toz of silver did you buy at the bargain price of $30/toz?

or is it the case of being a bargain only when others are duped into doing the actual buying?

Sorry if I offended you in any way and yes it was just in jest.

Wasn't implying or mocking anything.

I bought my fair share last year and do I think it was a mistake? No.

It will take years to claw back ( I'm very aware of that) but it will be clawed back eventually and I can enjoy it in the meantime.

Just like the silver I purchased years ago is now in profit,  last year's decision will in my humble opinion come good eventually.

I think you took my comment the wrong way completely.

how is a mistake that takes years to correct not a mistake?

you can only write off a mistake to inexperience if you first accept that it was a mistake.

Sorry I know it's not the point of the post (I too have faith in silver, and everyone I've ever shown a 999 coin can't believe how cheap it is).

Isn't land and property extremely cheap in certain parts of North America (including some very good ones if you want to be fairly self-sufficient)...I watch a lot of off-grid channels from here in rip off Britain with very envious eyes? A million for a house has me very very surprised!

Actually HH, I meant quite the opposite. That’s why I love literature. It can mean different things to many people. But in this case, the author, me, was actually hinting at all the things we are willing to spend our currency on that seems relatively expensive and yet, we complain that silver is at $30 (CAD) an ounce.

I think we should count our lucky stars and my mockery was actually intended towards the price of everything else. That’s why I started with low prices and worked my way up to higher prices. The last one especially, the $1,000,000 modest house, is a prime example of something severely inflated and people are rushing to the market on fear of missing out here in Canada.

Meanwhile, silver is a bargain and whoever bought at this price is actually a genius. Mockery? Yes. But towards those who think silver is overpriced currently.

P.S. I appreciate everyone on this forum and the different views they bring.

God I love literature!

You should see what happens when a northerner ends up in a southern pub...!

"Will sir be requiring a beverage of the alcoholic sort?"

"Aye, gan'non, hinny!"

"Sir will be pleased to learn that the bill has come in cheaper than normal, as this is his first visitation to the establishment."

"Proper beltas!" *Swings from bottle.*

"The bill is £15."

*Starts to return beer back to bottle with the aid of raspberry kisses.*

I’m not lying to you. The most desirable places in Canada (I’m referencing Ontario here, specifically in the GTA), are going for $1,000,000 (CAD) or more.

The province of Alberta has similar housing prices at half that amount and the eastern provinces of Canada are probably sitting at a third or even a quarter the price for the same house. Problem is, no jobs to support you. So housing is cheaper there.

you've already missed your chance to be a genius(that was two years ago when it hit ~$9 usd).

for what purpose and return on investment is silver currently a bargain at $30 canadian?
