GoldStatue reacted to westminstrel in 2023 “Royal Arms” Sovereign
Dude I couldn’t agree with you more.
The Coat of Arms may be a nice heraldic design, but it just doesn’t have the instant association with the Sovereign that the St. George and the Dragon design has.
The St. George and the Dragon is just so iconic - you see it and your mind instantly goes, Sovereign.
It’s why I would’ve preferred that timeless and classic design for the Coronation year.
But I guess we live in an age where the tendency to get easily bored and crave something new is the prevailing trend.

I think there is a danger of the sovereign losing its distinctiveness. The RM now releases so many coins in so many sizes and varieties, the one thing that made the sovereign distinctive was St. George and the Dragon.

GoldStatue reacted to GBStacking in What's your latest stacking goal?
The project for my Godson's is to get their stack building while they are still very little. They both have silver Britannia's for the years they were born. The youngest is too young yet, but the older one is aware it exists and refers to it as his treasure. So for Xmas I have made them some treasure chests of their own (I'll admit the boxes were pre bought as unfinished shells, I did the staining, lining and got the engraved name plates) and popped a generic Brit in it (one they can put their sticky fingers on!) The plan is to add to the stack over the years and teach them the value of things as we go. Should be a nice little nest egg for them once they are old enough to have control of their own finances.

A small antipodean petting zoo arrived for me today, courtesy of @DrDave - kooks, kangas and kids, oh my!
What's your favourite Oz coin?

GoldStatue reacted to Nowhereman in Today I Received.....
The "other day" I received a full set of silver stackable shields. I was only after one but panda six pack offered the full set for a price I couldn't refuse.
Technically they are stackable bars but the design, high relief detail. immaculate quality and quirkiness put them on another level above most coins and bars.
Thank you panda six pack👍

Couple of latest purchases. Got a few 2023 brits on order and may get some 1/4oz twerking Yales when they're available but that should be me for a bit.

GoldStatue reacted to Zhorro in 2023 “Royal Arms” Sovereign
Regarding the 2023 proof sovereign, I've just been in contact with my dealer (sounds a bit naughty!) who was correct about the unlimited mintages on the Memorial coins. They think that the release of the 2023 proof sovereign has been pushed back to early next year because of the Queen's passing. Let's see whether or not they are right on this one!

GoldStatue got a reaction from foinikas in 2023 “Royal Arms” Sovereign
I'd say Charlie boy won't be changing the Royal Arms but the RM will want to do a different interpretation of it, so we'll get his effigy on the obverse and a different version of the reverse compared to the Platinum Jubilee version.

GoldStatue reacted to Silverbull in QB completer
You are certainly not alone in your thinking, that’s the first thing I though when I first seen the QB completer is I wish they had minted this one first, it might have saved me trying to get the full set
I like the coin, probably more so than all of them. A lot of mints/producers seem to do this with series. It is a nice set to own however, it takes dedication to complete these sets.
enjoy yours

GoldStatue reacted to James32 in QB completer
Everything they sell is about squeezing maximum returns.
Just glad they didn't do a completer reverse frosted set😅
How's this for logic, I completed the 1/4oz gold x 10 recently, then I felt the urge to hunt a 1oz gold completer ( none available in 1/4 size) did it make me feel the set is finally completed 😀? NOPE...

Yup thought the same to. The great unwashed general public royal mint cash cow is ripe for milking again in 2023 ..........mmmmmooooooooooo !
See if they continue the unlimited mintage shenanigans like last Monday ??

GoldStatue reacted to SidS in Stacking goals - George IV / William IV
Finally, it's taken a few years but I've got a full £5 face in George IV and William IV coins, all dates of the circulation issues represented (minus the rare stuff for George IV) Plenty of half crowns but rather light on shillings!
If only I could afford William IV gold!

GoldStatue got a reaction from Essendie in Sovereigns or 1/4 oz gold coins?
I believe the Lego Death Star set is one of those holy grails, it must be massive.
I think the steam is going out of a few collectables markets at the moment, people are saying it is happening to star wars vintage action figures as well.
To answer your original question, in reality there is minimal difference between the two as long as you pay the right price in the first place. People generally go for the Sovereigns as they have a long history to them and are therefore more recognisable to the average joe in the UK.

GoldStatue reacted to JamesH in Maybe useful - here's my back-of-a-fag-packet gold pricing tool.
It’s interesting because right now (spot dependent) it’s quite a challenge to find Sovs at or under 4%. Few available here and there but seems to be something of a sellers market at the minute. I think the price breaks will adjust a little sideways from time to time depending on the state of the market but I think as they are now (at least on the coins I’m after - Sovs, 1/4, 1oz) they’re a decent marker 👍🏼
