Chancellor Rishi Sunak has asked The Royal Mint to strike a new £1 coin designed by Kenyan-born British artist Michael Armitage.

The new coin, which will enter circulation in 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the modern £1 coin. It will be the first change since the new 12 sided coin was unveiled in 2017. The new design will celebrate the culture, creativity, heritage and history of the UK in the 21st century.

The Royal Mint will also launch collectable editions of the coin to coincide with the new £1 entering circulation. Register below for more information over the coming months.

What can we expect / like to see on this new design?

Answering my own question, how about St. George and the Dragon?

It is traditional on £1 coins!

Come on TSF members!
What typifies UK culture, creativity, and heritage in the 21st century?
Can we call it history?
There must be plenty of ideas out there!

How about a nod to the British Gene industry with homage paid to the creators (cloners) of Dolly the Sheep!

Would go down well in Llantrisant as well!

I think they are too heavily into traditional methods of insemination there.

They might love sheep, but detest cloning!

If a Welshman 'loves' his sheep, then an Englishman enjoys eating a Welsh mutton pie...🤔

Ahem, back to the coin. Possibly one half with 'British Industry Then' showing some of the logos of the most recognisable British companies, then then the other half with 'British Industry Now' with a blank space?
