I didn't purchase it. I'm just curious to know if it's worth the asking price, thanks

Nice Sovereign- you might get an even better deal if you make an offer on this, and the Maklouf 3rd Portrait Sovereign peeping out, at the top left of the slab both together.

Atkinsons have an 1852 Shield for about the same price - judging by the picture it may not be as good as this one.  Presumably they'd bargain a bit?

Not the same bud - this is certified treasure.

As Matrawr rightly pointed out btw this coin has an extra premium over general sovereigns because of it being recovered from the douro shipwreck

An AU 55 sold for £426 in May

@Groundz- looks like your going to have to get back there tomorrow and make an offer.  To be honest, for a bit of history, nice grade the premium looks palatable.  Something nice to bore your grandchildren with in the future.

Thanks for the responses, appreciated. As you can tell I'm not as knowledgeable as you lot when it comes to this sort of stuff and I had no doubt that posting this would gather a bit of interest with people in the know! But tbh I'm not in a position right now to go and purchase it, as much as I wouldlove to have it, especially after reading up on the history of it

If you’re not in a position to purchase now how about telling in which shop it resides.

Thanks to Groundz, I obtained the shop name and bought it from them in July 2019.  It is the best Douro Sov I have in my collection. It seemed expensive at the time at 385, but in retrospect was a good deal.

Very nice Sovereign @dicker a similar was sold on Ebay this month and bidding went up to £560

Yours looks like a higher grade 👍

Thank you.  I am doing some research and statistical work on the data around Douro coins this summer, but I suspect most of the data is going to be a bit ropey.  As dealers have commented here, they received bags of Douro Sovs for general sale. I suspect he data about the cargo was lost.
