1989 Double Sovereign available at Atkinsons for £800 - 500th anniversary

price is reasonable compared to what they have sold for on the bay the past few months

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=1989+double+sovereign&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Complete=1

Agreed that this is a good deal. The picture on the listing shows a coin in a condition that I don't think would appeal to most people. However, they do say on the actual listing that: The photograph shows the type of coin you will receive, not the exact item. At least you can say they are being honest about the potential condition...

I am warming to Atkinsons. I may change my self imposed ban. Let's see whether they start stocking good price fractional gold eagles again!

I see they say this coin is struck to bullion standard. It should not be confused with the proof double sovereign. Fascinating, though, I didn't know such bullion coins existed. I learn new things every day :)

They don't, none produced that year.

Just shows how bad Atties are when it comes to numismatics. The other conclusion is they are saying it's an impaired proof but in that case, it shouldn't be £800🤨

Yeah.. I would imagine then that the condition is far from mint proof... probably has finger prints and scratches. They're selling it as bullion so one cannot expect anything good, unless you want to try your luck with NCS conservation.

Very tempted. It's not clear whether this is new or second hand, but at 1% premium it's a great deal either way!

I thought Chards 2nd hand stuff was classed as 'secondary market' but i'm not sure that can be true due to some of the very old stuff they sell that isn't classed as it.  Either way, it's 1% over spot for nearly an ounce of gold, 2nd hand or not, that's good value.

Chards coins are good quality, in my experience. I bought proof gold coins from them in the past that graded well. Trustworthy dealer, they've been in the business for a long time.

https://www.coininvest.com/en/gold-coins/mexican-peso/50-mexican-pesos-centenario-gold-1821-1947/

50 Gold Mexican Pesos (1821-1947)

I've not personally used Coin Invest before, but unless I've done my maths wrong these seem to work out about 0.4-0.5% over spot before delivery. Nice design as well.

£13.95 delivery though which adds another 1%, although if you buy more this reduces rapidly.

e.g. Buy 3 coins for 0.8% over spot all in including delivery, for example.

Sorry @Melon, your math was wrong. This is not .999 gold, but .900 gold, so the actual gold content is 33.75g.

Nope, the weight quoted is the fine weight. The coin weighs 41.67 grams. :)

Weight (grams): 41.67

Pure gold content (grams): 37.503

Fineness: 900.0

Dimensions: 36mm diameter

The main issue with this coin is that almost all 1947 coins  version are a restrike so there is I guess zero numismatic value to it

Would other years be slightly more expensive ? 1931 still have 100k + mintage .

Yea certainly a restrike. This is one for people after low premium bullion rather than the coin collectors I think. Although it is a nice looking coin.

I'm in two minds myself between this one and the Chards 100 Corona at the moment!

This interested me until I noticed the delivery fee is 9.00. Seems a bit excessive. HGM do this for c.288.00 and I can collect from them directly - so a couple of pound cheaper and no waiting time or post risk.
