The postie brought the quarter sovereign today. That completes the set at the moment but I would dearly love a five sovereign to go with them.

Received this beauty in today. 2021 1/4oz Kookaburra gold proof. 500 max mintage. I had no idea the perth mint had released a quarter oz version until this past december. I had a hard time finding one available to purchase. You can find the 5oz silver Kook HR 2021 coin available all day long. But not this coin. Still this was much cheaper versus more recent releases in quarter oz gold proof coins I want to get from the royal mint.

Maundy Money Change of Portrait Type Set- well very nearly!
All housed in their new home, encapsulated in Quadrum Capsules- if anyone has Maundy and wish to have a safe and secure method of storage/ display, these specially designed inners for Maundy can be bought here, for about a tenner for 10 inners & Quadrum capsules, delivered.
Completing the Set has been a bit of a labour of love.  It's almost complete but I still have to source the 1953 Maundy Set.  The 1953 Set is a difficult one to find, the mintage being just over 1000.  In the meantime I have substituted this Set with a 2000 Proof set bearing the Mary Gillick Portrait of Elizabeth II.  The Gillick Portrait has endured throughout Her Majesty's reign.
The ten coin ‘Type Set’ in the photo’s below features the change of Monarch Portrait from 1817.  It wasn’t until 1820 that special sets of small silver coins were struck for the annual Maundy Ceremony in denominations of 1d, 2d, 3d and 4d.  These special sets of small Silver coins have been specially struck every year since 1820, and in 1822 an enduring standard of the coin was established in terms of the size and weight.  Maundy Money sits alongside the ubiquitous 200 plus year old Sovereign; as the only coinage that endures to the present day.
The Obverse of Maundy coinage mirrors the Portrait of the circulating coinage of the day.  The reverse was initially designed by Jean Baptiste- Merlen in 1822, and has endured since, excepting a minor change to the Crown, instigated by the renowned Royal Mint Engraver, William Wyon in 1888.  In 1950, George VI vetoed a change back to the Original 1822 design, and so it endures with only the one change in 199 years.
The 1817 features the Pistrucci Portrait of George III.  Unlike the Maundy struck from 1822, the date is found on the Obverse.
The 1822 was the first year for George IV.  Interestingly, the Royal Mint used the 2d Portrait punch on the 3d coin, which makes it look like an oddity from the remainder of the set.
The 1831 William IV and the 1838 Victoria was the first year Maundy for both of these Monarch's.
The 1888 was the first year of Jubilee Head for Victoria- it is here you can find the one and only change to the Reverse of Maundy coinage in 199 years.  The change made by William Wyon, in terms of the design of the Crown- please compare with the earlier issues photographed below.
The 1893 depicts Victoria's Veiled Head Portrait.
The 1902 Edward VII, 1911 George V and the 1937 George VI Maundy photographed below are all Proof, and these year dates were issued in individual Sets for the Maundy Ceremony and also included in Specimen Proof Sets with other coin denominations.  These Specimen Sets were issued to commemorate each of the respective Monarchs Coronation.
Missing is the 1953 Mary Gillick Portrait Set, but substituted handsomely with the 2000 Maundy Proof Set, struck to commemorate the Millennium.

    Enjoy! 😃

To update this thread, in terms of @Stuntman's suggestions of what Crowns to collect.
I clearly haven't the resources to purchase an example of a William IV Crown, and the Victoria Gothic Crown is one that I will need to dig deep for at some point in the future. I haven't decided if I want to backdate further, but I have started to piece together modern Crowns in terms of Coronation Anniversary and Jubilee issues.
Its been quite satisfying (and expensive) getting this far.  I have essentially bought the best within my budget- the minimum grade being EF/ GEF- but all with nice eye appeal and there are some Uncirculated Grades, including some lovely Proofs- 1902 Matte; 1927 Wreath; 1951, 1972 & 1977.  I have also 'duplicated' the 1937 in terms of having the Proof and an Uncirculated example.  I might well do this with other year dates.
The 1820 George III and the 1821 George IV along with the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof, the 1927 George V Wreath and the 1960 Elizabeth II Prooflike are my top 5.

Here's where I am with the collection so far:

Eighteen reasons to get excited about Sovereigns.
I received a lovely 1863 Victoria Sovereign today and this one concluded my 'Change of Portrait' Type Set from 1817 to present day 😅  The type set includes all the Portrait changes for each Monarch.  I have attempted to acquire the inaugural year date for each Portrait change.
All the 19th Century examples are Sovereigns and where practicable, all of the 20th & 21st Century Sovereigns are Proof examples.
Over time I will likely try and seek out a nicer example of the 1825 George IV; replace the 1836 William IV with the inaugural year of 1831; attempt to do the same by replacing the 1863 Victoria with a nice 1838 example and for Elizabeth II, replace the 1987 Maklouf Portrait with the inaugural 1985 year date.
In the meantime, for those who appreciate them, enjoy the Sovereigns 😀

I am expecting a graded 70 set in silver to have a floor of about 1500 and rise from there, graded gold 30k ish+. Graded Plain edge gold set, could (probably will imo) fly.

I feel like some people may be overthinking it, I don't think the single coins are overly valuable on their own especially the quartered arms as its a 2 part coin. I think if I could only have one it would be the Victoria head as they will be much more limited in availability due to most people buying continuations.
I think expectations have been through the roof to the point we see an instant 100% profit as an abject failure.
That said maybe I'm wrong but at least if I'm left bag holding it will be with some very pretty coins

They are offering +3.25% over spot
Do yourself a favour and at least try and sell them privately- quickest way would be to split the set- and try for at the very least +10% on the individual coins.
Big difference cash wise and at +10% they would still be a bargain at around £345 per Sovereign and you’ll easily get bigger premiums for the half/ Quarter and you could sell the presentation case separately on eBay- must be worth £50 minimum.
Jeez- there were only 748 of these 5 coin sets issued.
