  1. Have quite often purchased orderable sovereigns from Chards and it’s just a waiting game with the knowledge that you got them at the price listed at the time. Just make sure you don’t order anything else in stock in the same order that you want right away at this will come when the orderable items are in. Will be using the service again as soon as I’ve emptied the bank account on 2023 sovs 😀

I believe the U means it's an imported piece.

Probably not Swiss, as Swiss watches were normally 935 and would have their hallmarks in addition to British ones.

Beyond that, without pictures of the face or the movement within, it'd be hard to pin it down to a type or country.

Is it an open face watch, a hunter, half-hunter etc.?

Swiss watches changed to 925 in 1914 to match our standards.

Anyway, that’s a British import hallmark. There is the standard mark, the town mark for London and the date letter b for 1917/18

Hi all I was wondering what is everyone's opinion or what do you collect  ?

I am not sure if I should start collecting full sovereigns or 1oz britannias.

I am looking to hold on to them for a long time and then see how the market is then.

    Thank you

Sovereigns here. Always thought they would be much easier to liquidate when required. Just look at how many have been sold here already this year, must be in the 1000’s!

  4. I bought this when I was 16 and in the 28 years I’ve had it must of had 10’s of thousands of 2p through it. I’ve always kept an eye out for different or non uk ones and amazingly I’ve only ever come across 6! Do you think the lack of foreign muck is because people just don’t cross borders with coppers in their pockets or because there are just so many 2p’s in circulation that they are just so diluted. Compare these to euros passed in place as pound coins which must have already happened twice this year to me.

It depends at what point you regard the production process to cease?
It could be argued this would be the point at which the coin is ejected from the die. Any treatment afterwards would be post-production and open to treatment on an individual basis i.e. some could be treated with kid gloves, some thrown into a skip tossed around etc

    Then it should say post-minting?
