Oxford Mint Ltd incorporated in 2021 and has only ever had one director, a Rajesh Kaji: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/13113850/officers

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that putting "In its 21st century reincarnation ..." on their "The Mint Today" page doesn't entirely excuse claiming a history going back to 871 AD on their "History" page.

So very much like the modern EIC - they also talk about the unrelated historic EIC on their website...

Such a shame, thought there was going to be some history here but alas it’s being run out of a domestic address in Woking. They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with all that historical rubbish on the website when it’s not related in the slightest. I’m even verging on the thought of is it a legitimate company as this is their terms and conditions on their website?!

  2. Bought a fake 1887 half sovereign last week from a friendly jeweller. Only realised it was when I got round to looking at it yesterday and it weighed in at 3.501g. Bloody good detail for a fake, even had a bit of lustre! Took it back today and it tested in at 14k. He felt awful about selling it to me and swapped it out for an 1843 so not all bad 🙂

I think this is the rarest one I have. Never seen another bullion 2016 half sovereign knocking about. Marsh has it at fewer than 500 so pretty rare 👍🏼

Well I never! Bought one on Tuesday from my jewellers amongst a batch of 8. First half’s I’ve ever bought and only had them because he wanted rid and did them at 190 for me. Haven’t had a chance to check them in Marsh yet!

What I meant by a stack was having a collection of gold and silver in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong but I suppose your definition of a stack is building up collection of any gold and silver bullion, no matter what it is or what it looks like.

I've been investing in gold and silver for about a year and a half now and have been learning about what I personally look for in a collection. I like to think of myself as both a stacker and a collector. On one hand, I recently bought 5 VAT free silver eagles at a discount on Atkinsons Bullion for stacking purposes. On the other hand, I recently sold a 1/4 gold philharmonic coin so I could buy a 1/4 oz gold coronation coin. It just depends on what mood I'm in.

For me, I like to keep my gold for as long as possible to hedge against inflation, maybe even to go above inflation. Although now and again, I might see something which I believe is worth having in my collection, so I'll either go ahead and buy it or I'll sell some bullion pieces to obtain it.

Fair play. Ye, I stack sovereigns for their gold content to hedge against inflation. I take my hat off to you to be able to stack and collect at the same time. I know if I let collecting bug in me take hold it would ruin me as there are some awesome coins out there.
If you see a piece of gold that you like and that means you have to sell some gold to get it, go for it! If it puts a smile on ya face, that’s got to be worth a few quid loss.

  5. It sounds like you’re a stacker that’s becoming a collector as your swapping £ notes for something you like? That’s up to you and your prerogative, all depends why you’re in the game? By how you phrase your question I question your definition of a stack and believe you have succumb to the devils armpits of what the piece looks like! In which case do the deal, look at it when you want to and feel happy 😃

  6. No VAT on used for an individual if buying something already in the UK as it’s already had the VAT paid when bought new. Importing pretty much anything, new or used, is subject to VAT. I believe on used items if customs think you have undervalued an item on the invoice they can charge VAT and Duty at the price the item was when it was new!

  7. That’s Nick, I get spares for my cvrt from him, happened a while back. Think there is a YouTube video somewhere of them finding them. At the time he thought it was the right thing to do, he’s an honest guy. Not everyone’s cup of tea but genuine nonetheless. He is having problems at the moment as he has a yard full of purchased cvrt’s waiting to go to the Ukraine for medivac but Barclays shut his account without reason last year and ‘blacklisted’ him.
