Asbestos and mercury must have fallen in price since 1980, and for obvious reasons, it's criminal that silver's still so low.

I know I stated it before. But if covid wouldn't send the price up with all the total unknown scenarios in the early days of the pandemic, then I highly doubt WW3 will do it either. After all in a World War silver is the least concern, they'll be after nickel and steel. Remember in WW2, the US removed nickel from the 5c piece during the war for war use and substituted a less useful metal in its place, silver as it would happen.
Makes me wonder why I stack silver tbh? I do it, because I enjoy it.

I've never had any problems selling guineas. I used to have a few.
By way of example. I bought a GF (at best) James II half guinea for £225 back in 2002, sold it in 2008 for about £500, which was a very nice turn around I thought.

I wonder how long it will be before I stumble upon one in circulation. Early December I found my first and only alphabet 10p to day, only took three years.
    I guess I'll get one of these 2022 jubilee 50p in about 2025. 😁

As much as I'd love to be able to buy sovereigns as cheap as I did all those years ago, the days of $320 gold isn't ever coming back (unless there's a currency reset/revaluation).
I expect by the end of the next decade sovereigns will be £500 a piece, and yes people will still be buying them. £380 will look like a bargain.

I like 23ct gold... Yummy medieval gold. Shame I can't afford any!
Out of 22 and 24, If I bought gold, which I don't as it's beyond my budget, I'd go for 22ct every time. I like .900 gold coins too, old US coins are dreamy.

I love the anecdote about double fisting, certainly Not what sprang into my mind I can tell you.
To be fair a lot of the Americanisms I often use myself, 'coffee to go' for example.
There's only one thing Americans say which drives me up the wall and that's...
    "I'll write you later."
Instead of the British version "I'll write to you later."
I guess on reflection it's only like saying "I'll phone you", but still.
I can deal everything else, even with 'rout' and 'booey' for 'route' and 'buoy'.
As for US spelling, a lot of that came from traditional British spelling so it doesn't bother me.
Samuel Johnson who wrote the British version of the dictionary decided English didn't look refined enough and decided to make it look more like French or Latin. Hence the old spelling of 'dette' became 'debt' as in Latin 'debitum'. Amusingly 'color' was altered to 'colour', same with 'favor' changing to 'favour'.
So the Yanks are doing it the original way, same with US customary units of measure which were based on old English measures, it was the UK which changed the measurement system to 'imperial' in the 1820s.

Eww 'orreganno' instead of oregano, that does hurt.
I've even heard 'baysil' instead of 'basil'.

Should the RM have minted stick to the Gold rather than the horrible copper colour, I would have bought them all including all proofs.
I derive far more pleasure from collecting Victoria Sovs and there is no Queue system!

See intuitively my brain knew all that and knew why "I'll write you" didn't make sense but I couldn't have put it as succinctly as you have.
