I may divide opinion posting this, but I think I feel as many others do on this forum, despite the news as of late, that today’s news has been a shock.
This is a huge shock, albeit expected, given HM The Queens ageing years. She’s the only monarch that those under 70 years old has known.
I’ve read some not so many dislikable and distasteful comments on the forum today.
But, I think, no matter what one’s own option is that HM The Queen has given so much to all of us. A duty to the end.
But above all she was a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother mother.
I’ve looked in and out of the forum this afternoon and this evening. But no matter wether you’re a modern stacker, an old stacker, a collector of Gillick sovereigns or modern releases, be that the Tudor Beast’s or The Monarchs collection with Edward VII resale imminent.
Many people, like myself of this country and also most people of the forum, feel a ‘shift’, a change, has happened today. Within a day a changing of the guard as it were.
HM The Queen’s passing is a great loss to our country of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
I wasn’t sure wether to share this with the the wider forum but I will, as I feel I’m mostly amongst friends, but HM The Queen awarded my grandfather with his MBE some 20 years ago.
It was the happiest day of my grandfathers life.
He said to me “She was gracious, warm, kind and showed an interest in my achievement at the same time.”
We are at the end of an era. Regardless of what we collect or stack, we are at the end of a remarkable era.
I watched the news today, as many others did, the announcement of HM The Queen’s passing and I’m not ashamed to say, I shed a tear when the news was announced.
But, albeit a fictional character, Padding Bear had the right words for HM The Queen’s reign at her Platinum Jubilee in one sentence “Thank you Ma’am, for everything”.
Lastly, I’ll leave this photograph of HM The Queen.
How beautiful she looked. How beautiful she’ll remain.
This is very odd to write on the forum, but here goes.
    GOD SAVE THE KING.

As a gay coin collector, I’m more than a little disappointed with the reception this coin has had here.
Firstly, I'm actually pretty happy with the overall design. I can’t be alone in that I expected a dumpster fire of ideas but it’s come together pretty succinctly. Given the royal mint’s recent offerings, this has fallen in the “oh thank the lord it’s fine” category!!

More importantly though, this is a means of celebrating a deeply important moment in LGBT+ peoples history - a history most of us had to learn for ourselves given it was illegal to be taught we were valid human beings at school (see section 28/2A).

Jokes about “identifying” as this or that may seem flippant to yourselves, but to the people who live those lives it’s anything but. I won’t entertain all comments but I will say I’m not the only LGBT+ coin collector who dreaded opening social media today. And shockingly enough, a fair amount of LGBT+ persons are coin collectors.
I value this forum as a place of numismatic discussion, not a way of societally punching down. Again - I’m disappointed.

The comments here are an absolute disgrace.
It’s a new release 50p to represent people who have gone through hell to be who they are. I repeat, people who have gone through hell to be who they are.
Come on guys, you’re better than a comment as a joke for a few ‘likes’ or reactions.
I love this forum until I see these comments.
Imagine not being able to walk down the street holding hands with the person you love.
Imagine not being able to kiss your partner in public through fear of relatiation.
Imagine pretending to be someone you’re not.
Studies have shown: The most homophobic men are themselves bi or gay.
At the end of the day it’s a 50p. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
So many comments above could have never been if only the writer thought twice.

MrB reacted to papi1980 in How is inflation effecting you in 2022?
    My humble views
The reality is that BoA (and FED, ECB, BoJ) are caught between the plate and the hammer.
    1) don’t increase rates sharply  —> you save borrowers;  inflation spreads to permanent 10-12% year changing people’s habits to spend quickly and raising velocity of money —> now at that time even if you reduce M1 or do qualitative tightening ( the money base), you (as Central Banker) can not do much to change spending habits. The best way for changing spending habits is raising interest rates so you start to save or change currency (pegging it to something). I haven’t even mentioned here the pressure you will have from Government and people, since the ruling party will want your head (Head of BoE) of a spike (with high inflation ruling party losses 100%)
    2) now option 2 is also nasty, you decide to increase rates sharply (e.g. 2x 1.5% between Sept and Dec 2022) combined with Qualitative tightening (taking money out); —> you get first stock and bond market crash—> followed by property deals reducing due to very low affordability (you now have to chose for 1.2m for a house in London suburb with 7% interest) —> you get similar or probably even harder recession like 2008 but without bank defaults since banks are ok now. Similar period will be end 1970s with Volker increasing rates in the US to 15%. —> now the problem is that inflation will most probably continue to be 4-5% since the world is no longer globalised and a lot of the production will start to be done domestically with raw materials mostly procured from ‘unfriendly’ countries—> property stagnates or even goes down —> stock market is volatile (provably growing at 5-7 % since corporate earnings will be eaten by a combination of a) more expensive raw materials b) stronger demand for wage growth and lack of talent c) lack of cheap money; things like stock buyouts will disappear. That stage will be long enough (15-20 years) until a new global superpower emerges and the cycle starts again

My bet is that the CB will try 1) and then capitulate to 2) with a twist of offering CBDC as a cure
both ways PM is a better choice

Well..it comes back to what has been advertised by RM, at what price and what you get. I'm happy to take the risk when I know that is the deal from the beginning.  RM didn't say, 'take your chance to get a semi-proof 2oz silver' for 50£"
If that was advertised as bullion, silver 2oz then I'm ok, but it was advertised as a proof with the relevant price tag...in that case, if the product is not really 'proof' then we have the right to ask for proof quality
Here comes the catch...what is 'proof' and how we define it...but for me, a 'proof' should be a flawless coin, with the highest possible finish.
Sorry, Sam but it is not about money and risk and choices...it is about what is offered and what is received....

Mine just arrived (postman was already with red non-delivery slip despite my dash to the door the instant I heard the knock).
Was worried given all the RM failures that have been reported, but capsule intact on delivery and coin... on initial inspection flawless. I got lucky with this and the first part of the pair.
Given my record of sending back coins from the RM, I am really pleased something they sent out this time around managed to come through unscathed. But we shouldn't have to deal with this anxiety and disappointment.
Fingers crossed for everybody still waiting on delivery.
