Your best coin purchase of 2022 ??

Wow that's quite something. I've known a few women who have 'lit up a room' when walking into it, but never one which lit up a coin!

I'm not even a fan of rainbow toning usually, but this is gorgeous.

Just dip it then ha! ha! Rather annoying when you have some old coins and would like them to be toned like this and they don’t tone at all … just sit there looking a little grubby🤔🫣

Although a sovereign man at heart, this coin is incredible and I think I would call it my best for 2022. The silky satin toning, in very deep blues and purples at the rim of the coin grading across the fields to the soft greys, pinks and gold tinge of the cameo’s, particularly on the Victoria side are very satisfying

Happy New Year everyone.

That's another absolute beauty I'd love to get my little pixie mitts on!

Don't worry, some duraglit and Goddard's silver polish, those stains will sharp rub out ;)

It's been a decent year and I've managed to pick up a few nice coins but I think my favourite may have been a slightly dented, probably dropped and certainly handled 50 peso I bought here for spot.

It's so nice to have a coin in the collection that I can just pick up, play with and not have to worry about devaluing. It doesn't hurt that it's a nice hefty piece too! I'd recommend them to anyone.

Honourable mention goes to the ongoing reverse proof tudor beasts, hated them at first but I'm growing to love them. I'm especially happy they reduced the mintage on the reverse proof set to 500 for the last release.

Here's a few of my purchases for 2022:

Stephen (1135-1154) 'Watford' Cross Moline - Penny. Stunning portrait.

Henry II (1154-1189) 'Tealby' Cross Crosslets - Penny.

John (1199-1216) Short Cross Penny.

Henry IV (1399-1413) Half Groat - clipped.

I can't claim for the quality of the photos as they are the seller's, which are way better than mine, since mine always look awful.

As you can see I'm going for one of each monarch - a foolhardy task really. It's not so much about going for rare or most valuable, but going for the clearest and strongest portrait I can get with the money I've got.

I keep getting waylaid though as I keep purchasing Stephen pennies.

Fantastic coins, good luck with the quest, it’ll be a wonderful collection 👍

I love these things! I did have a rather pedestrian 1904 variant many years ago. I really wish I hadn't sold it. That said, one day a 19th century variant would be brill, when funds allow. I love old US gold coins.

Yes there used to be quite a few 1904's around but even these are becoming hard (and expensive) to get hold of.

My first ever gold coin, bought direct from the Royal Mint (actually bought 5) that got my Gold stack started. Didn’t know a thing about gold other than the fact that many more knowledgable than I, said it was a good thing to get into so bought a few, and then a few more and so on. It’s now become a favourite hobby and something I can enjoy with one eye on the future and my children’s future too 😀

It's great to have a hobby that, barring a price collapse, is essentially free when you are collecting bullion. Obviously that logic only works if you sell it but I find it helps me get over the mental hurdle of shelling out so much money

Probably being able to reach my target of obtaining the 2023 Britannia Blister Set. I didn’t think I would be able to get them but grinding hard paid off.

Unfortunately, my boat currently cannot be located so it’s back to the drawing board. Might need to improve my carpentry skills in order to build a more sturdy vessel. 😇

… have to say, it was probably the last thing I picked up last year, as it goes:

The perfect compliment to the half and full PF70 sovereigns I also managed to add to the stack 😁👍
