Finally completed my carded 1/40th date run the other day.

Just the size comparison to a 10p. 😅

I have the coronation one and a couple of others… where are you finding them?

The older ones in cards actually don’t look great, probably better off out?

How much do 1/40th Gold coins sell for? I could google it, but I'm lazy.

Buy high. Sell low.

I actually got the 2014-2016 from the mint when they first came out.

I didn't realise they minted a stand alone 2017 until after they were sold out.

They would look kinda cool in a slab. Someone must have one in a slab. Would like to see that.

Between £50-£100 I think.

They were about £70 from the mint back then. I got them all for that. A bit of a premium but I quite like them. 😎

This has made me want to start playing around and taking photos again

So, bought myself a ‘tiktok’ light ring..... down with the kids now!

On a plus, means I don’t have to wait around all day for the sun to shine thru the window at the right time!!

Add a panel (monitor) light and a tripod (maybe get an adjustable arm) and place it at about 10:30 to give the lighting some direction.

Also, with ring lights, if you're too close to the coin then the incident angle is higher, and it will reflect more off the edges of the device, which gives a sort of ghostly effect - here's an example of the effect taken to extreme.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

It looks funny but it's quite useful for emphasizing the original mint finish to analyse wear - This lighting emphasizes the original mint finish.  You can still see it in the brighter patches on the coin.  On the young Vic effigy below, it's still present in the recesses of the hair, and much of it is still intact on the Jubilee vic at the top.
