silvernewbie got a reaction from Tn21 in Royal Mail special delivery claim rejected
    Hi guys
just wondering if anyone has any experience claiming for a lost item sent SD?  It was for a private sale of a bar worth £200 which got lost, so i made a claim proving proof of postage, screenshots of the correspondence with the buyer and proof of value i found a similar priced item online and sent that weblink - even though i am only claiming for the amount received from the buyer.

the claim was rejected and i was only refunded postage and customer service said i need to provide all evidence showing value.  Also i can attach my statement as payment was BT.  Obviously i dont have an invoice/paypal receipt as i purchased this a long time ago and also privately.  In this case what else can i provide to them?

i thought this would be a black and white case but obviously they are trying to get out of paying.
  3. Thanks

Insurance companies make money by not paying out. Challenge it to the hilt. I would ring the customer service team and escalate it as a formal complaint and get the record straight.
Wish you all the best with it.

They are trying it on so persevere.
SD covers all valuables and anything else of value.
Show your bank statement entry and send a picture, not a link, of a similar item.
If a similar item is listed on a dealer site take a screen shot showing its retail price.
Maybe compare the weight of the item with the weight shown on the postal label.
Regular SD provides up to £500 insurance for loss.
I am afraid the people behind the Royal Mail claims are like robots so you need to make it "idiot proof".

After me and my wife will go, our children will sell/keep her jewellery and my coins. All the other stuff we have bought in a long life will go to the charity shop or bin.
Only precious metals are lasting forever, doesn't matter if are recycled sometimes.

Looking at all the c**p that came through my door, I just dont trust them & would not buy from them even if it was half price.
They are out to pull people in with one off deals & then deceive people with grossly over priced premiums, especially on the non PM's.

I emailed them to cancel my order and they called me within 10 mins a few weeks back, so the offices are open.
But benefit of the doubt would be wise as this could be a technical glitch and they are working thier way through all the calls etc??
I bet they sold a shed load of coins over the weekend - they may have run out.

Or are carefully looking at the orders and picking out new clients & people that they have not sent a truck load of letter too.

@aliengravy sorry posted that before you, but did not press save.

Many order from private dealers in canada but involves marking the parcel lower so for insurance purposes risk is on you.  Personally had 10 parcels delivered no problems worked out 23£ oz after post

Chards and me dont get on because I don't like them selling items they don't have in stock, so other dealers get my business that don't use this practice
Their choice how they do business but it is not for me, other seem more than happy to wait an undisclosed amount of time
If i'm committing to buying something i want it in a few days, not a few weeks, months or even a years time

This is how I see the current state of affairs. The market does not want to buy low-yielding US government bonds, and the last bond auction was poorly covered. Bonds have sold off, and as a result yields are rising. The official line from the Fed is that this doesn't matter: rising yields are what one can expect during an economic recovery, so they are not going to act to suppress them.
But this position is disingenuous. Rates aren't rising because of a huge demand for capital from businesses; they are rising because of a shortage of supply from lenders willing to accept 0.5%. The US government is planning to spend $4 trillion or more on stimulus expenditure, green projects and assorted bail-outs. There won't be sufficient capital to supply this debt at current interest rates. If it is put up for auction, the market will want at least 1.5% and maybe even 2% interest, to cover the risk of inflation. The US government is already in a position in which interest payments, military expenditure and welfare payments alone account for considerably more than its entire tax revenue. It simply cannot afford higher interest rates.
So, the Fed is playing chicken with the market. Either the market will back down and take the debt at 0.5%, or the Fed will back down and buy the debt itself, effectively directly monetising the government's expenditure. My money is on the latter. When this happens, nominal interest rates will fall, inflation will rise, and real interest rates will move considerably negative, maybe as much as -4%. Real interest rates are the quantity most closely (inversely) correlated with the gold price.  Currently, real rates are rising and gold is falling, but this will have to reverse in the not too distant future. The main question is when - will it be this year or next - and a secondary question is how much of gold's lunch will be eaten by cryptos.

Gold is forever wealth as belangp says. Your ozs haven’t dropped just the currency value linked to it (which in reality is not really linked).
Its a store of value a commodity. It does what they say it does. Be grateful you have it, most people don’t....

    My latest additions from BBP
A nice free 1 oz Brit and a lucky dip sov which turned out to be a 1914 London minted one 😃
Also a wooden 10 coin sov box from them and would highly recommend getting one if your like me and have a smaller collection, they are very well made, good quality and also come with an outer cardboard box.
Posted again as my last post contained something it shouldn’t of...

Surprised a member reports it as a bad deal, than has a conversation here about the post. Would have prompted discussion of how bad the deal is, for others to learn perhaps?
