  1. A few years ago I decided to invest a few Euros in either Diamonds, Whisky or Gold! Not having a clue about anything of the said so I went for Gold. Digging in I became aware of the QB,s collection. So being an expat and proud of British Heritage decided that was the way to go. Started with the Lion, Unicorn etc. BU Coins which are minted in their millions. Digging in deeper discovered that they were also on offer in limited and Proof quality. Didn’t know what Gold Proof (Whisky yes) meant then. The Crux of the matter being what exactly do you want from your investment?
I decided to go for the collector, Rare and Quality which always pays off. Takes time I agree but the premium is well worth the wait.

I have the complete QB,s 1 oz Gold Proof Set which is an amazing sight. I’ve asked my Gold Dealer hier in Germany if I was to sell would 40.000€ be an acceptable price? He agreed as very reasonable. BUT you have to find a BUYER!

    Stay safe y,all

  2. Hi Chorlton,

thanks for your reply. I also had doubts about coins being bought online if they’re genuine or not! I was thinking of buying a Gold Screener or whatever they’re called for around €1.200,00 but doesn’t make sense for 5-10 Coins. So I came up with the idea that if I can’t determine the genuinity then who can? So I went to a reputable Gold Dealer offering my coins for sale they have all the equipment required for authenticating etc. ! Refused the ridiculous offer then went home feeling quite smirky not having spent a single penny but relieved that my coins were as expected GOLD.

Stay Safe & Regards from Germany (Expat)

  3. I was asked a couple of months ago if I was going to Grade my QB,s collection. I was undecided then and didn’t really understand the complicity or better said the reason why! I understand that a collector would only buy the best. My QB,s Completer was ordered but due to Brexit delivered 5 weeks later! So I can’t get a first release grading! It’s the same Coin so why is it 1st release? I know NGC specifies that the Coin must be delivered inside 4 weeks of release. I was always in belief that a Proof Coin was/is the best Mintage quality at this moment in time so where’s the difference? Do they have different Cameo/ Frosted Coins in the US? Just asking! And to be quite honest a Proof Coin in its original presentation box means more to me than the same Coin in a Plastic/Blister packaging with a barcode! So here we go again Buyer or Seller that’s the question? I’ve decided against grading but I suppose it’s just a personal preference. I’ve always thought that companies jump on the bandwagon as soon as money,s involved! Is grading really necessary?

I have got a George III and two Maria Theresa coins and I love them because there is no such thing as an ugly gold or silver coin - for as long as they don't mint one with the likeness of Frau Merkel.

Now,now now! The proof is in the minting, although?

@Howie Yes that is a shame. We collect these nice things and you can’t even sit it on your desk in your house incase you are robbed. 😔 kind of ruins it.

Too true! I don’t know about England or other European countries but Burglars here are on the rampage. I have one or the other in my Safe at Home which I take out & admire. Would love to buy a display cabinet but wishful thinking!

They grade millions of coins. I never heard, that they lost something. If that is just the reason for you not to grade this amazing coin set, just take it by yourself to NGC Munich, or go to a Grading Event at PCGS Paris. A ticket to Paris should not cost much more, than a insured courier to France.

But raw it's also a really stunning set.

Thanks for your comments. It’s not the only reason why but also the principle of the matter as @CollectorNo1stated. For 1, 2 or 3  Coins OK but the full set?  Not really convinced. A Courier service would be around €25,00 peanuts compared with travel costs. München being the next NGC Office about 600 Km away but would be a nice weekend trip  though if it wasn’t for COVID-19.

@Howie I think it depends on how OCD you are if they get different grades. I prefer having my coins graded tbh. Also do you plan on selling these coins soon. If so grading can help but if your in no rush to sell you could leave it a while. Right now NGC waiting times are up and you could atleast wait till they come back down.

No not planning on selling them in the foreseeable future. I started collecting the series because I was fascinated by & admiring such beautiful Coins. I’d hoped, (I’ve started so I’ll finish) to get the full set. Wasn’t easy but got there somehow. Not much admiring them now though too scared of burgles etc.

Yes makes a very big difference..but not always...what puts me off the most is sending my PM's through the post....and waiting over a month..anything could happen to them...although I havnt heard any horror stories..

That’s one of my main worries. If The Completer eg. did get lost or somehow disappeared you’d only get the insurance money back. No replacement (I’d have to purchase for double the price I paid for this one) just the insurance! I have lost stuff (disappeared) with DHL before so I’d use a Courier. costly but peace of mind.

    Take Care & Regards

I'd keep them in the omp..I'm not a great believer in grading coins...its controversial and personal preference for you... imo paying a company to grade my coins..paying them to grade my  coins is exploiting us of our hard earned money.....just another new born idea to fleece us out of our fiat..but many collectors love to get their bullion or proof coins graded so they can sell on forums like Ebay and get a higher price. To each their own... but I'm not paying a company money..waiting on average of 45 days for the return on my coins hoping i will get a PF70 or MS70....which is unlikely.. or you can pay them more to receive your coins earlier....🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 exploiting us big time...but to each their own ..

    Regards.

My thoughts exactly but „What a difference a Grade makes“!

Beautiful coins also displayed beautifully. May I ask where you acquired the stands.

Hi @Bixley good morning, thanks for your comments. I purchased the Stands from eBay Germany.

    https://www.ebay.de/itm/5-Stueck-Muenzstaender-Muenzaufsteller-Kapselstaender-farblos-fuer-1-Oz-Muenzen-/401701143657?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=707-127634-2357-0

they are the only ones I’ve seen in that frosted glass look. I’m not too sure if you’ll understand them though, (all in German) but you can at least send them an eMail & ask for a quote. I got 20 pieces for €8,80 + P&P. If you need any help, interpreting etc don’t hesitate to ask.

Stay Safe and Regards from rainy Germany

  11. Well back to Earth on this one! My personal view is stop when you start feeling uncomfortable! I started 2 years ago collecting  the norm. I had no idea at all what the hell I was doing just placing my faith in Kruger, American, Brit 1oz Gold etc. Then discovered the QB,s as an alternative. Being a proud British Citizen decided to opt for them. I am a novice in this area. But I think I made the right decision. My norm Coins go up and down but the QB,s as collectibles just keep going up & up & up! I,ve sold my norm. Coins with a profit but the QB,s are just storming away. My Resümee or Philosophy being opt for a series of Coins that attracts that little more premium. 1oz of Gold =1oz Gold Price 1oz Gold Coin=1oz Gold + collectors Premium. And when one reaches the age where everything starts getting annoying, & boring, falling  asleep at 14:03 after Lunch pack it in and buy yourself a journey into Space!

Good Mooning wish you all the best.

    Howie
