    @Nick1368
Another guy said that there was fault with his keyboard and he accidentally bid like 20 times on a 2016 half sovereign which sold for nearly £1000 , and guess what ? the guy with the faulty keyboard who placed 20 bids on that coin , did not win it hahaha Anyways be careful when buying/selling coins on auctions , there are dishonest disgusting people out there who would and are doing things like this .
I run 'Coins of the Realm Auctions' - Are you talking about the coin that sold in our auction on Saturday? If so, there were two bidders at the end of this Lot and both bid increments of £10 up until it sold. The buyer may not of wanted to pay this amount for his coin, but I can absolutely guarantee you that NO SHILL BIDDING is allowed in our auction, customers are not permitted to bid on their own submissions. If we believed this had taken place (and we can see every bid in the auction)  the sale of the Lot would be cancelled. We do sometimes have reserves on some of the lots which we have begun to put in the writeup so people understand that the reserve will be implemented before the LIVE auction if that item does not meet it's reserve it will not sell. However, this Lot you are referring to DID NOT have a reserve.
What I would say, if someone has experiencing technical difficulties during an auction they should contact us to discuss because if this customer had won I would have expected him to pay. So it is important any technical problems that involve the auction are reported.
I do take offence to people insinuating we are allowing shill bidding to go on in any auction. We do not, and every customer who bids and wins in our auction is pursued if they refuse to pay. Which I am happy to say has only happened on a few occasions.
What a lot of people do not realise is making these kind of throw away comments discourages customers attending auctions and it it damaging to a small business like ours. If you had ever had a conversation with me you would know I have integrity and would not allow this to happen in the auction.

don't get me wrong , I don't have any problem with the coin cabinet and the people who run it , the problem is the abuse of coin cabinet auction by some sellers and as a result some people maybe those who are new to coin collecting end up paying a lot more than a coin is worth and it also creates false prices in the market .
yeah I am shocked as well , rule number one in any auction is that YOU SHOULD NOT AND CAN NOT BID ON YOUR OWN ITEM , it just doesn't get any simpler than that , I don't know what is so difficult to understand about it .
and it's absolutely disgusting that these people are admitting to their wrong doing in public without any shame whatsoever , they are proud of what they have done and they are laughing and joking about it and calling the winners of those coins idiots , coins that they sold in the dirtiest possible way , they have no dignity therefore no shame .

Oh God no. I once sold an item on eBay . The guy ( who had bought from me before) asked if he could pay in installments .  As you guessed i never got paid the full amount . Never again.

At the very least he could and should have asked you first, and not committed himself to buying, and expect you to accept it.
So, he wanted time to pay instead of paying for time? 🙂

Not all..there are some being advertised as gold plated...very low bids, but some people might see gold plated and bid up thinking they are getting a bargain, when really it's only brass with gold paint, probably..🤔🤔🤔🤔

    I agree with Jimmock.
Until you know which years are worth more money it's best to try not to spend more than 4.5% over spot including postage.
That's about what you can hope to get back for common years in good condition (selling on the forum).
SVcollector is selling for way under that at the mo.

Probably cheaper to get a interest free credit card and pay that off.

Usual ebay chancers.  I sold a watch and the purchaser asked for the same.

I turned him down and asked for full payment and he got abusive.  I didn’t get a penny and re listed.

Why not ? I decided to take mine out of the card . I don't think the cards add any value .

It really is a lot of hoops to jump through. I have had problems with their security checks on both proof and bullion purchases. Even though I have spent a fair amount with the royal mint they still subject you to vigorous security checks. One time I bought a 1 oz gold bullion and they didn't send it out for over 2 weeks and an email they never replied to and 3 phone calls of them telling me they will dispatch it soon I was told they just forgot to take the security tag off of the payment which they needed to do before they sent it even though the funds were taken from my account. I really do love the royal mints products but with this, the lack of communication between departments, the quality control issues, not listening to their customer base and some questionable designs on some of their coins, the royal mint as a business is just so poorly run.

To purchase proof coins you have to pay by card. It might be worth saving your card details as it will be quicker to check out and so it will quicker to confirm your purchase. Otherwise you will have to enter your card details and then check out so it might be sold out by the time you check out if it does sell out quickly.

I might speed the process up on launch day.  I’ve had that nightmare of the security check on payment and holds the check out up.  By the time you re do the payment it’s all sold out.

I am pretty useless at saving . I used to buy all sorts of rubbish. About 10 years ago i threw all the rubbish out and bought my first sovereign . This meant that i could still collect stuff , but that stuff would always have a value. I have a very modest wage but not a flash lifestyle . So i just kept buying Sovereigns to the point where i now have a vast collection. If that was money in the bank i would have wasted it. Collecting gold is perfect for the likes of me. I now collect silver to add a bit of diversity but it's sovereigns i love.

A boss from a previous job got me into silver a couple of years back, and I stacked that for a while. The most I had when stacking silver was a fraction over 5kg but most of that has been sold gradually. I haven't made a loss on any of it and don't regret selling it, although occasionally I think about those 10ozt Pamp bars wistfully!
I am more into gold now, and not bothered about collecting or condition, I am just after building a modest supplement to my pension when that comes in about 25 years. (If I even make it to that age!) To that end I try to buy CGT exempt coins or at least low premium. I rarely buy outside the forum. In the past I even have been perverse enough to buy coins I don't particularly like, just so I have no compunction over selling them whenever the time comes! But I confess a few beauties have accidentally made it into the pot 🤐
I have a 'humble' background too. I don't work in emergency services or armed forces, and I don't have any friends or relatives into gold (and most have no idea about this aspect of me).
Life has been a bit unconventional for me. I've had two long term partners (at separate times I hasten to add) who have developed illnesses and the financial and emotional strains this has put on them and me has meant I never got on the property ladder and instead built up debts while trying to support them (which I am paying back without ever missing a payment). I guess I've been unlucky but not as unlucky as they have.
This has also meant no kids of my own, but if I am brutally honest I have never really wanted kids, and I wouldn't be able to afford them anyway. I can afford to rent a modest place and pay its bills, and like the fact that if I do have another change of circumstances I can move with a month's notice and don't have to fork out for a new boiler etc.
I do think, however, that I would not want to be enslaved by a huge mortgage even if I were earning more. Most people see it as security and that renting is money down the drain, but the only way I could afford even a dump of a place would be to get into a big mortgage which overstretched me and then be stuck to a particular location doing a job I hate just to pay for that dump. Then there's all the costs and hassle of maintenance and home improvements to consider... What I think suits me obviously doesn't suit everyone, or even most people, and many will have the means to make their property nicer and live more comfortably. I am going for what best suits my circumstances rather than trying to bend and stretch to conform to what I am not really comfortable with. It does seem to me that Britain is all about having the house, the car, the holidays whether or not you can really afford it. This digression is only really here because I have seen discussions on here where people seem to agree that it's generally best to avoid getting into debt if possible, especially if the primary motivation is keeping up with the Joneses or trying to live like people do in TV commercials for kitchens, holidays, car adverts....

I got made redundant earlier this year and now have a much more modest income. I wanted a change of direction and not to live with so much stress. I have the six months cash savings that people often suggest (based on my minimum realistic outgoings) and it has been hard not to buy loads of gold (very, very hard!) and hard not to make bigger payments to my debt, but I am trying to stick to that 6 month cash reserve rule. Having a few extra grand in the bank seems to me to negate the negligible £50, £100 a month saving, since my debts are on long term low interest offers.
So far I've held on to my gold - almost three ounces - and not had to sell anything, but will need another job or a supplement to my income in the next few months, after I help my partner sort out a few personal and health issues.

    Good luck with your journey!

This goes back to the so called privatisation  of the Royal Mint in 2009, not the Tory party as you would suspect but under Labour. Its a private company now with 1 share holder, 'The Treasury'. I think the part of the Mint that actually makes UK currency is separate. They actually made a loss for a few years until they came up with the idea to issue more commemorative coins and get involved in the bullion trade. Someone at the Mint clearly saw what Pobjoy were doing with the provincial  issues and had a brain wave to go down the same route using the Royal UK Mint as the selling point.
As a dealer I have to offer the latest coins, but also stay true to the traditional market such as sovereigns, these have sat in the background steadily going up in value, and the market is a lot more stable especially for investors.

My electrician is a damn nice chap; he's done work on multiple properties for me since about 1990 and even now at aged over 70 all the local farmers rely on his skills to keep them up and running.
I'm apalled the RM have not yet released a coin in his honour, I assume they will wait until 2022 ............. 😁

Alice in Wonderland has been the best seller this week of the new issues, only 175 struck One Ounce versions sold out by the Mint. Collectors are starting to pick their coins carefully amidst the plethora of releases. A tactic that used to inundate the market with coins from places such as the Isle of Man and the Falkland Islands struck by the Pobjoy Mint.
