Sovereign Alloys - My favourite topic!
Earlier Sovereigns certainly had more silver in them, especially 'Australia' sovs.
Photo shows 2 x 1870 sovs. minted with  'yellow gold' (Silver & Copper) with a lovely matte finish. That's how I like them! However Steve Hill describes the 1868 sov as being 'yellow gold' with 8.33% silver. The 2005 Commemorative (150yrs) proof below is one I had tested, and it also showed 8.33% silver and therefore zero copper. I always believed that to be 'green gold' - It does seem to have the slightest 'green' hue to it. Anyway its a pretty unique colour.
    Just for info.....

It is almost universally agreed that gold sovereigns, together with multiples and fractions would look better yellow by adding some silver to the alloy, rather than the modern coppery red colour created by using only copper in the alloy, and no silver.
I have frequently commented on it, and produced XRF alloy analysis as evidence that there was always silver in older sovereigns, and that the absence of silver, producing red gold coins is a recent (since about 1957) aberration.
There are many threads on TSF which mention this, and also infomation and blog pages on the Chards website.
On Thursday 23rd September, I wrote an e-mail to Anne Jessop and two other members of the Royal Mint management team, stating the case for adding silver, and doing so as early as in the anticipated 2022 Royal Coat of Arms sovereigns.
I was pleasantly surprised to get a response as early as the next day, but it was only from one of the recipients letting me know they had forwarded it to a more appropriate member of their team. Following that, I had been expecting a substantive response shortly afterwards, even if it was to say "no", or "thanks". It has been almost three weeks now, and a thought just occurred to me, that the delay and absence of response may just be because I have hit a proverbial nail on the head, and that they are about to issue yellow gold sovereigns with some silver content, in which case, they would not wish to pre-empt their embargo or announcement. Or perhaps they are mulling over my suggestion...
    Any bets?

My favourite 9999 bullion gold coin to handle!  The edging has been raised, so deceptively appears to match the spec. of the 22ct Eagle. The colour reflecting off a semi matte finish is superb, and allows you to appreciate why everyone should literally get in touch with their gold. Comes highly recommended by me! Shown, is the obverse Indian Head by Fraser from earlier coinage. Another plus point - both sides have an interesting design unlike RM coins with a rather tedious image of QE2. This one I bought in 2008, so it has more than doubled in value as a medium term investment.....

Finally after the best part of nearly five months, two separate trips across the Atlantic and a label change, my Completer has eventually made it back safe and sound. Definitely worth the wait I think😀

I’ve recently bought this job lot of coins, shown here is a fraction of what I bought.
I hadn’t seen them before buying so it was a mystery what would be in there and I’ve had lots of fun going through them this evening.
Another member here suggested I make this a post of its own, so here it is.
Apologies for the poor photos as they’ve all be taken this evening.
    What did I find?
I found mostly old pennies and some nice examples, Victoria, George V, Edward VII, George VI and Elizabeth. I also learned that the Victoria young head portrait was on the old pennies as late as the 1890’s.
I also lost count of the amount of th’repenny bits there are. No jokes needed. We all know what it rhymes with!!
I also found a nice 1948 quarter dollar and a few 1 Franc coins from 1945-1947 made from, Would you believe aluminium!! I thought they were plastic when I first picked them up. I can only imagine France was short of PM’s after 1945. No prizes for guessing why.
I did find some very nice George V Florins and three pence coins that I believe are 50% silver which I was pleased to find.
There are many world coins both old and new which many I have no idea about.
The curiosity with this got the better of me and it’s quite enjoyable. My family however looked at me in bewilderment as I tipped them on the table ready to rummage. 😆
Anyway, there’s still a lot more to go through and if anyone is interested I’ll update the post with my ‘finds’. This is the first time I’ve ever bought a ‘job lot’ and it certainly makes a change from sovereigns, crowns and silver stacking.
(I'm wearing the gloves as some of these coins are a little grubby.)

These big silver Krug proofs don’t get much attention, but I am a fan. Sure…the design is not likely to change anytime soon, and a mintage of 10,000 but it’s still a nice shiny piece of metal😀.

Received my 1oz proof and 3 x BU's this morning. Very happy.
As a point of note, following BYB's recent video relating to the shoddy packaging, I can confirm that my 1oz came in a dedicated box, within a larger outer box filled with scrunched up paper. Can't argue with that👍.
BU's came separately in cardboard envelope.
Maybe Royal Mint watched the vid??

I ended up getting #oo6 for two coins!

10 oz Silver and 2 oz Gold. They both look awesome. @BackyardBullion posted pics of the 10 oz but here are some pics of the 2 oz gold in case you haven’t seen it in the wild yet. The size  and clarity of the Panther is perfect.

I’m very impressed, it seems flawless and I was lucky to get a low certificate number too for what it’s worth.
I know we’ve all seen them but I can’t stop looking at it.
