GrahamDiamond reacted to LawrenceChard in Why silver price is going down when we have such inflation?
Sure, I paid £35K for our house, over 40 years ago. It is probably worth about £1 million, so it has been a good inflation hedge, despite maintenance costs, and some upgrades.
In or around London it would probably have cost at least £1 million 40+ years ago.
Our office / showroom stands us at about £1 million, and would cost £10 million to £20 million or more in London.

Before I was old enough for a driving license, I used to cycle around the Fylde Coast to banks, to buy up their stocks of silver threepences.

I often look around, and realise how poor I am.
There are a number of reasons I now have some capital:
I worked hard, and often long hours.
I used intelligence, and applied much thought.
I retained most rather than spending it.
When I do spend, I like to get good value.
I still work, 10 or 15 years after many people have retired.
I have always invested in gold, silver, coins, and other "stock".
I could have been much richer 40 or 50 years ago:
If I cheated people.
If I advertised or described stuff misleadingly.
If I had used any hard selling.
If I had not taken on a partner (very long story).
I certainly am not rich enough to manipulate the silver market.
I can't afford to buy a decent yacht to have a boating accident in!

Learn a soft skill that's not physical you are able to do in retirement. Google ad words, Facebook ads, pc graphic design, wheeling n dealing on feebay, Skype video counseling. Mentorining, consultancy
I've every intention of still making an extra buck while I'm in retirement, done it since I was 14 will be no different when I'm not working full time. I'll be board chit less twiddling my thumbs. Always Have a hobby of earning it never leaves you

GrahamDiamond reacted to GoldDiggerDave in 2022 £5 sovereigns?
Think the RM have not totally milked the 2022 sovereign yet. Proof piedfort later this year, hope the £5 BU is not matt but going off pervious years it’s likely to be the case. I feel there could be more in the offering, £2 Piedfort or more milled Piedfort (the have made an un milled pattern set) would not be hard to change the collars and knock up more coins.
Got a feeling they will be a proof available that they have not offered before.
Matt Proof? Don’t know how they could distinguish this from the SOTD, less frosting faults perhaps?
Some have suggested a platinum sovereign.
what ever happens we know we will all be queuing to buy them!

GrahamDiamond reacted to GoldDiggerDave in 1911-C and 1918-I sovereigns
@banyancb no matter when you start collecting coins you wish you bought years ago, it’s all part of the leaning curve.
Even if you have over paid in year 1 by year 8-9 you are likely to look back and think it was cheap.
invest in some sovereign and coin books, it will put you on the right path, the Spink guide shows prices which you might find helpful.
