Had another go at sand casting Copper using a small brick kindly donated by @MickB
It turned out better than the previous casting anyway. The Brick will soon be heading home to its new owner 😀

A chap at the mint was likely finishing off one of his Benson and Hedges whilst enjoying a cup of PG Tips and a hobnob while reading the racing post.
A bit of fag ash or hobnob was probably swept into the press as he perused the runners and riders at the 2:15 at Chepstow.
In all seriousness, it is one to send back - quite how this passed Kwality Kontrol, is not surprising but disappointing.

Nice bit of kit, good work there.  The swinging pendulum rig could be possibly made out of acrylic with brass bushes in the side for the pendulum piece for a cheaper design. The Chinese would most probably copy your design & go on from there with the cheaper side of manufacturing. CNC lasercut parts are quite easy to program into a machine nowadays. They don't care about copyright.
Overall, a decent design that looks stylish, I'm impressed!

I'd say that they would hold their premium. Go forward ten years from now and nobody would want to swap an ounce Queens beast for an ounce RM Lunar series gold coin. They wouldn't do that now as the QB series has an historic back story to them relating to royalty. Lunar coins are made by a few other mints which have moved from series to series, so plenty of coins around of the same idea.

    Hi
My name is Rory Roberts, I am the inventor of some new gold coin and bar testers. The products are currently in development, but all have the PCT global Patent. I am very keen to get feedback and interest from knowledgeable gold and silver enthusiasts, I want to work with you to make the products perfect.
I'm posting a link to the video of the Products.
I look forward to an interesting discussion.
    Thanks

Not too terribly exciting but I added another 3.6 ounces to the stack, uncirculated 1962 vintage, fractionalized of course.
I think I got a pretty good deal too, at about $35 per ounce.

As I think I have posted here, before I knew her, my wife escaped the WTC North Tower after it was hit.
At the same time, I was sat on a trading floor at Merrill Lynch London listening to things over the open lines to brokers that I will never forget and don't enjoy remembering.
9/11 is a day when I take a few minutes out to think about those who lost their lives, the impact on their families and those who did all that they could to rescue people.

You must have watched that episode of Lovejoy..where he found a large amount of sovreigns hidden in the bottom of some curtains..😃 infact in Victorian times they placed lead discs inside the bottom seams to keep the curtains straight and aligned, and infact hid their sovreigns in with the discs...Great place to hide your wealth..

These teddy bears are definetely sleeping. I can imagine one of them being mauled by a dog at some point, being shook from side to side and the sovereigns flying out in front of a startled owner. That would be a nice surprise for them.

Yesterday I was told by a local bullion dealer of a true story that goes back only a few years ago regarding one of their very good customers who bought sovereigns on a regular basis. Over the years he amassed quite a number that he bought from them and was telling the staff that his preferred hiding place was inside teddy bears that he bought at charity shops which he kept at home. He's carefully unpick the stitching and place a few sovereigns in each one. Not a bad idea, however he died and the shop lost out on a good customer.
A while later his brother enters the shop with 20 sovereigns that he found lying around his deceased brother's house that he was clearing out and sold them back to them. The dealer asked him if there were anymore he was planning to bring in to sell, he said that's all he could find. Then the dealer mentioned about the hidden sovereigns inside the teddy bears and the man's heart sank, all the teddy bears were given away to charity shops! The dealer told me it was the most uncomfortable conversation he's ever had and assumed that he never got any of them back as he never returned.
A good hiding place for coins but no good if the above happens.

The pulled the plug on the BU silver version, I was collecting those, bought a display box and everything then they just decided to can it halfway through, still happy to peddle the proofs and the massively overpriced cupro-nickel coins though.  This combined with the shocking quality control of the proofs and the fact this does not even look like a coherent series it changes halfway through was what made me decide I'm done with the Royal Mint.
