I have been mentioning shysters and small-time fraudsters on ebay for years now.
They almost always follow a pattern that they were given or acquired these coins, and don't know much about coins, and whether they are genuine or not, but then they go on to describe and list most of the attributes of genuine coins. In short, they are all playing dumb, but they are nowhere near as dumb as the people who buy them, thinking or hoping they have got a bargain.
I am convinced that ebay know very wel what is being sold on their site, are happy to take the listing fees and selling fees, and do not care one iota about the "punters" who are getting ripped off day after day. Sometimes ebay might have to reimburse buyers, but often will recover this from the sellers.
Ebay is just another of the vast multinational corporations making fat profits, while putting out propaganda saying they take customer safety very seriously, and similar with copyright and intellectual property rights. It seems that the media are happy to comply with this deceit because they get to run "news" stories about "rare" £2 and 50p coins "selling for hundreds or thousands of pounds.
In my opinion ebay is a four letter word. 😎

This is scary !!!
In the gold section today @LawrenceChard provided a link to AliExpress.
I just took a cursory look and was utterly shocked to see that you could buy 30 popular silver ounce coins but fakes - AND NON MAGNETIC - for less than £2 a pop.
Surely eBay will need to deal with scheisters listing these starting at £20 with a disclaimer that they don't know if the coin is genuine or not ...
Same goes for bars and gold coins

Assuming the 30% loss is the dealers premium and VAT. You buy a 100oz bar for £2200, it doubles in 5-10 years so now £4400 to buy from dealer. You sell to dealer -30% = £3080 = 40% profit in nominal terms. Meanwhile everything else has doubled in price 🤨

DuperDash reacted to Happypanda88 in What Silver Is Best to Buy Relocating to a Non EU
If you are currently stacking PMs and wants to take them with you when relocating, then surely gold is the only option.
Forget about silver as they are bulky in high quantities. They won't be easy to hand carry should you accumulate multi kilos. You could of course sell your silver prior to relocating. But then again you might not get back what you paid for them.

DuperDash reacted to BackyardBullion in Postage Insurance
So, its really about the volume of sales you want to make and why you are making them.
If you are flipping coins regularly some might argue you are retailing as a business/sole trader. In which case the end responsibility comes to you as the dispatcher for insurance and covering any losses, not the customer.
I look at it like this:
Send 100 parcels with special delivery = £700 for postage
Let's say each parcel is valued at £50
Send 100 parcels signed for = £300 postage
This means that you would have to have 8 parcels go missing to actually end up being the same cost as sending all through SD.
From my experience I would say less than 1% of signed for parcels have an issue and even less than that go missing entirely.
It is basically acting as your own insurance provider and I would always prefer this because it is the job of an insurance company not to pay out. There are so many loopholes that they can/do use not to pay.
Hope that makes sense!

I started collecting silver purely as an investment. Purely getting the most volume for the best price. Not interested in designs at all as it’s purpose is purely to protect wealth.
That was then.
Now I find it more appealing to collect “sets” and limited runs irrespective of price, which as you can imagine causes quite a conflict of interest between my brain and my bank account!

Started buying silver & gold in 2004/05 as I began my journey learning about fiat currency, fractional reserve banking, central banks, debt based money and the level of debt in the world.
It served me well and I sold all my gold and silver to buy my home after a few years of post 2009 house prices falling and precious metal price rising. Making the purchase a lot less painful than it would have been if I left the cash in the bank at 0% interest rates.
Sorting out the house & family life took over and precious metals went on the back burner. Started buying again by discovering hallmarked bits of lower purity silver that I found at car boot sales, local small charity shops and locally on Facebook & EBay that was round spot price or cheaper.
Now I have the yearning for the 1oz, 10oz and kilo silver bars and coins that sold to buy my home.

I am stacking gold, silver and platinum as an investment and to add more variety and diversify my portfolio, as i do not like to put all my eggs in one basket. I never really considered buying precious metals before and never even knew the process was so simple. Now my aim is to have 10% of my wealth in precious metals and i won't be letting go of it until i am either very old or very desperate. Although i initially started as a stacker/investor, i am now appreciating the beauty of some coins etc and how diverse the designs are and i just want to buy certain pieces just to have, so think i am also edging towards collector.
There is something very enticing about owning precious metals in bullion form, makes me feel like i actually have treasure you know, something solid and real not just fiat currency but the stuff of kings and queens you know. None of my friends/ family are into it and i feel like i sort of, have one over all of them by investing some money in precious metals, they all think i am crazy but i feel getting into this was one of the best decisions i have ever made.
my philosophy is, "If i keep filling small pools one day i will have an ocean!"

I have got a single half oz Brit. It's a nice coin and I am very pleased to own it, but it probably falls between two stools both price-wise and desirability-wise.
As (mainly) a collector, I just wanted to have one in my collection.
If I wanted a gold coin of that sort of size but at a more reasonable premium, I'd choose a bullion double sovereign over a 1/2 oz Brit.
But I'd probably choose a 1/4 oz Brit and definitely a sovereign over a half ounce Brit.

DuperDash reacted to StackemHigh in Four quarter ounces or one ounce?
I like to hold some different sized gold coins and bars in my stack. I've got 1/10, 1/20, 1/4, 1/2 and 1oz coins and 5g, 10g, 20g and a couple of 50g bars to choose from incase i do need to sell i can lift the value of gold needed to save selling extra gold that i don't need to.
I'd start small slowly working up to larger weights to give the best flexability when selling if it's needed.

DuperDash reacted to GBStacking in Four quarter ounces or one ounce?
The 1oz will offer you the best value as far as premium is concerned if you go for something like a Krugerrand, but as others have said Sov's hold the edge in flexibility (although i don't think you would find it hard too shift a 1oz if you were just looking to liquidate in the future to a dealer or someone like that). I love my 1oz coins and they do feel lovely in the hand, but my next purchase is most likely going to be sovereigns so as to give my stack some better balance. At the end of the day, i would buy what you feel comfortable with, whichever you start with, there is nothing stopping you saving more in the future and buying both, i started with Silver, then Sov's then went to 1oz.

As it looks like your in London, have walk down to Balwins or Sharps Pixey. You can see the coins and save on postage. Have had dealings with both and they are helpful too.
