Yeah, shield sovs and other special issues obviously sell for more, I was just talking about generic billions sovs.

Looks like Pistrucci’s forte was definitely medallic, and not just the Waterloo!
Superb detail in both these Coronation medals for G1V and Victoria….

End of an era....by the way, it's mentioned the staff will be transferred to gold recycling works, which sounds RM will soon accept trade in of old cell phone to extract gold from it.

I’m not complaining, but “Starting in 2024…” sounds like this is going to be another range.
I’m just thinking how about they just honour their prior commitment to the British Monarchs range instead? 😟

This is why you need to be careful with silver.
    A coin that costs £40 when spot is £20 isn’t a coin with a 100% premium.
    It’s a coin that costs spot + £20.
When spot is £100, it won’t be worth £200.
More like £120 if in perfect condition or spot if not, regardless of economic conditions.

Most modern RM silver looses money I'm afraid.
There's the odd success story, una and the lion..three graces etc, but by in large your going to be selling at a loss on modern proof silver.

    Gold on the other hand?
1/4ozs are loosing insane money bar a few success story's.
    1oz proofs are awful returns
2oz proofs do well sometimes, picking the winner is hard though.
Special occasion/reverse sovereigns do well over a 5-10 year period
The problem is the ever increasing RM release pricing is sucking all the wind out of the collectors market. It leaves buyers at a big disadvantage out the gate.

The 1/4 oz gold proofs have been priced insanely by the RM for several years, the resulting insane losses in the secondary market are therefore inevitable.
Most of my gold stack is made up of RM 1/4 oz proofs, all bought on the secondary market and the most ever I've paid (so far) is approximately £495 per coin for the set of reverse proof Queens Beasts.
I've said it on here several times before, but nobody should have been buying 1/4 oz proofs direct from the RM for the last few years.

I acquired in 1992 both a .925 silver (2500 max mintage) and an antiqued bronze (5000 max mintage) of the 1990 Royal Mint release of the Pistrucci Waterloo medal.

Thanks for the info guys, will definitely check out the sites you have mentioned.
I have pretty much separated the majority into denomination and monarch, I may end up breaking them down into years next, should take a while but it can be very therapeutic.

Hi Chris, most of the Victorian coins worths some money, also Edward VII halfcrown and Florin.  This is only a brief statement, for details, you may also refer to the site on top of that mentioned by Stuntman, www.allcoinvalues.com.  Also auction results of London Coins, Spink etc. will be helpful, however the precise value will depend on date, die and quality of the coin.  You may also post some pics here and see if someone may give further ideas towards it.

I find this site useful for UK predecimal coins.  It will give you a decent indication of which coins are worth looking out for.
There's a page for each denomination, which then shows the information by monarch and date.
Take the prices as a guide rather than being the truth, but at least it gives a good relative idea.

    Hi, @Stella20.
    Very nice item!
The number is 12 31, (12 for Mori Enrico fu Eugenio, 31 for Donati & Spina, both from Arezzo, Italy, second half of 20th century, after 1968).
I have seen before on another italian silver objects stamped the marks for two makers if it was a team work.
    Kindest regards,
    Stefan 🤗

Statement from The Royal Mint in regards the Silent Auction Situation
    Starts
“We have received feedback on an email sent to bidders of The Royal Mint’s silent auction on Sunday 17th March, 2024.
The intention of the communication was to keep bidders informed relating to their bids, however, we understand that some recipients of the email felt that it was not in the spirit of a silent auction - and we apologise for this.
We are currently reviewing the outcome of the auction and will be updating bidders on next steps as soon as we can.”
