2024 Britannia proof range

Recommended Posts

I noticed this new proclamation is mostly about the 70s Bond coins and the Lion and the Eagle coins that have already come out, but it also includes a single 1/2oz silver coin, which I presume must be the design for the 2024 Britannia proof range. It sounds very similar to the bullion design in words, but I'm sure it must be different. Anyway, no more weird sea horse things!

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4555787

‘For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 1 POUND ·”, and for the reverse a depiction of Britannia standing upon a rock in the sea, her right hand grasping a trident and her left resting on a shield and holding an olive branch, accompanied by a security latent feature and the inscription “· BRITANNIA · (the date of the year) · 1/2OZ · 999 · FINE · SILVER ·”. The coin shall have a grained edge.’

Couldn't it be the new weight for a standard bullion coin?

Who knows! While the textual description matches that of the bullion coin, that same text also accurately describes at least one of the previous proof coins despite it having a different design.

Just 2 in the queue to get on site today

Got on nice and easy, looked at prices and left! Doing a date run but no interest in paying £100 for 1oz of silver with that design. I’ll stick with normal bullion until RM sort this out

I like the design myself, but the beach banner on the RM site is hilariously bad 😅

A few dealers have them too -

BBP - https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/royal-mint-proof-collections/proof-britannia-2024/ - The full range.

Chards - https://www.chards.co.uk/products?search=2024+proof+britannia - Just some silver sets.

I remember 4 or 5 years ago, the Forum would have been awash with excitement at the release of the proof Britannia.  I guess only the RM knows how to kill both the golden goose and the silver goose at the same time!
