    So true.
I have never bought anything directly from the mint, and my cut off date for coin collecting is 1967, nothing after this. Except Switzerland, where the cut off is 1969.
I did dabble in stamps when I was younger but lost all interest when I couldn't keep up with commems.
I'll go on record here, I hate commemorative coins. There I've said it.

I'd really rather him stay as Charles, he's been know as that for so long for one, but also we've had loads of Georges, nice to have something different.
I don't buy the whole, Charles in the past, haven't been great kings nonsense. Yeah sure Charles I lost his head, and Charles II enjoyed his time with a whole variety of women. But Georges haven't exactly distinguished themselves either.
George I had his wife locked in a tower, George II had a terrible relationship with his eldest son and was relieved/delighted when he got killed playing cricket. George III went mad, George IV was a glutton and loathed and anyone who has read the Times obituary for him makes it clear he was not popular. George V was hardly the model parent, ignored and ostracised his youngest prince John for having haemophilia, and was a contributing factor to George VI's stammer (forcing him to write right handed). And George VI was actually Albert anyway and seems to have been the best of the bunch.
    So please stick with Charles.

Don't forget the Queen's 100th birthday in 2026, assuming she makes it.
Then there's the 75th anniversary of accession in 2027 and ditto coronation in 2028. They'll cover them all no doubt, if the Queen is still reigning at that point, and to be fair there is every chance.

In which case, the RM ought to put in a "banker", and do a 99th birthday issue (they missed out for Prince Philip). My design suggestion would be 99 Red Balloons. they could do a premium edition, complete with a C.D. of Nena. This would also be a nod to the royal family's German heritage.
No colour printing would be necessary because of the stupid red gold. 😎

I really like William IV coinage for some weird reason.
I adore Vicky Young Head crowns, they look great in hand.

Although it should be noted that silver when ingested or in colloidal solution and is used on the skin it can cause blue tinged skin - Argyria. Not a good look...

I can't speak for the States but I imagine in the UK the announcement of inflation rising, the whole national insurance rise, the retreat from furlough, the withdrawal of the temp Universal Credit, the whole concern over fuel bills etc. Etc...
I could go on and on, but as you can see there's lots of other places where money will be directed.

Why should the Queen dying affect legal tender status of coins? Sure the banknotes may get changed over somewhat more rapidly and the older ones pulled from circulation, as is the way with banknotes.
Coins though? They last decades, even more so if they're NCLT. The only time coins are culled and removed are if the design of the coin changes radically, be that a resize or a reshaping (£1 coins - where the old ones were heavily faked).
George VI florins were an everyday occurrence up until June 1993 - a full 41 years after his death.
