A very nice and what appears to be, a very honest and straight George V 1927 Silver Proof Set.  15,030 Proof Silver Sets were produced in 1927.  
 
The 1927 ‘Wreath’ Crown was the first Crown issued for George V and the first since the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Crown. 
It was an Impromptu Sunday evening eBay gamble.  It’s been on my want list for quite some time and I don’t know why I left it quite so long- it’s a beautiful Set. 





 

Something a little different from my sovereign collection arrived today.
This 1918 Canadian George V 50 Cent coin, .925 silver with some nice toning for its 103 year age.

My first addition since 2019 amazingly (got hooked on crypto, the shiny has brought me back...huzzah!)
2019 1 oz Gold Buffalo, amazing how my camera washes out the gold from the picture... this thing is really gold as opposed to the modern coppery sovereign! I think my favourite bullion gold coin.

I love these Australia sovereigns . Another for the collection . I'd like to complete the set.

Picked this up on the forum a while back and had it graded. I know there has been a lot of scepticism about the 323 mintage number that was published in the latest Marsh Gold Sovereign book but whether its 323 or 650 its still one of the lowest sovereign mintages ever. Now managed to collect the most significant SOTD coins (in my humble opinion). Next years one could also be a good one with the special reverse

I have previously picked up this 1 oz bounty. I will be slowly going back and picking up the previous dates so I can have a date run at some point in the future. Wish me luck!

The second coin, after the Opal, in the "GREAT SOUTHERN LAND" series with Mother of Pearl. I like it even more, than the first one. This time dedicated to the surrounding sealife.

I hear what your saying.. personally I won't buy any sovereign from any year from Ebay...I know quite a few people who have been ripped off with fakes..plus the Sovreigns on ebay are totally over priced..so for me it's a no brainer...but it is a 1/2 Sov..but still would not buy any Gold or silver on that site..there are plenty of other avenues to buy bullion other than Chinabay......

I had the same idea in the beginning. I thought that an investment stack should be 9999 gold (or 999 silver).
Then I learned of the value of historical coins over bullion where fractionals are concerned.
Then I learned to love to actually handle my coins.
In the end I learned that it doesn't really matter so much.
 
Having said that, there is something to be said about a clear yellow colour of gold - nothing is like it.
There is alloyed gold that still keeps that lustre - everything that uses both silver and cooper for alloying.

It’s a common misconception that only pure gold is the right stuff to buy. You’ll soon learn 22ct is equally as good! If you don’t like modern sovereigns then older ones are more gold like on colour

That’s awesome, I live just outside of St Albans which is a Roman settlement town with a load of history so have always wanted to run the Greenland and churned up fields with a metal detector, it doesn’t help that I watch Aussie goldhunters 5 nights a week. 

Last week i received another shield half sovereign 1887 this time I find these so mesmerising and addictive,
and a uncirculated £1 note gifted to me from my mother, don’t know a lot about these but may get it graded just to preserve its sentimental value.

I need to slow down 😂
