Just landed! The one in a capsule is a double.

I was controlling myself to look only at the 1sovereign at RM site, but now i am tempted to also complete the set 😅 They look really nice together.

I understand that they are bullion coins, how is the condition of the coins in blister pack? Maybe the pursuit for MS70 starts :D:D

  2. My 2oz silver finally arrived after more than a week in transit! It came in with slightly opened capsule, and thankfully the coin is okay and being hold on one side of the capsule.

First impression: I thought the shield would be fully frosted after seeing all the picture, but the one i see seems to give a gradiant kind of frosting which is quite nice. It has more on the edge and almost no frosting at the centre, the lions are frosted though. :)

Well my coin never turned up when it was due yesterday 😞 Anxious times.

Tracking doesn’t make much sense either.  Despatched from Birmingham to my town at 4am yesterday morning, then received back at Birmingham at 5am (hr later)that same morning  🤔not moved since.

Anything with the word ‘Royal’ in at the moment is giving me anxiety 😟

I am looking with envy at all the pictures posted here, especially the gold version with the wonderful satiny finish.

my 2oz silver is despatched on wednesday, but RoyalMail tracking still showing in transit from Cardiff MC to royal mail site for international shipment. I wonder why the transit from Cardiff MC to another royal mail site took so long since wednesday... 😅

  4. Register your interest now... Although, we all know that the mail may come after everything is sold out :D

    https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/the-great-engravers/gothic-crown/

"The Great Engravers Collection continues with the first of two coins paying homage to the Gothic Crown, one of the most beautiful coins ever struck by
The Royal Mint. Sign up below to be one of the first to hear about our upcoming release."

From the info on RM webpage, it seems that they will release 2 designs separately (?)...

Received some excellent Grading results today from NGC.

A big thank you to @SilverMike for helping me appraise the older Sovereigns and crucially, encouraging me to submit them for grading, despite my heavy resistance to separate them from the sets they came from.

My new favourite Sovereign in my collection is this 1911 Proof- PF64 Ultra Cameo 🤩- including this one, only 9 Graded UC by NGC and only 4 Graded DCAM by PCGS 😲

Here's a 'before' photo of the 1911 Proof Sovereign

    And After:

The other results are pleasing too, the 1911's baby brother and the 1937 George VI Sovereign particularly 🤩

Wow, such wonderful result! The 1911 proof almost looked like a different coin before and after. :D

The 1911 proof 1/2 Sov seems to have a strong frosting on the obverse.. Weird that NGC doesnt give it a cameo grade... but a PF64 Star is also great.

  6. Thanks for the info. I am not 100% sure if they are exactly identical, as the SoTD is also of brilliant uncirculated.

Was thinking it would be nice for my kid’s birth year  😄

The ones i have seen from seller are all opened for the pictures. i guess, it is not quite possible to grade them with the SoTD label now.😉

    Yep! 👌🏼

By the way, is the aule in your name a Tolkien reference? 🙂

Not really, it was a username created out of family names combination. But i do see the Tolkien reference after the username creation 😉

Back to the topic, i could imagine different mints releasing its own version of celebration 'Sovereign' next year though...

The way I see it, the Platinum Jubilee will be a celebration of HM’s long and remarkable reign. The first of its kind in history. I personally think it would be more appropriate to celebrate the occasion with a portrait that honours HM’s remarkable age too.

Who knows… they could do two Sovereigns, each with a different portrait… as has been suggested elsewhere. To me that would be straying into gimmicky territory.

Just keep it simple and classy with one memorable Sovereign, I say! 😀

I also prefer a single, representative sovereign design for this celebration.

Leave the gimmicky ideas / varieties to the other product range :D
